Description Simon, why are you uploading an awful photo of a slide?

Allow me to explain. This wasn't taken with an old film camera. Nor was it taken with a cheap webcam. It's not even a crummy Instagram filter. This is the work of my DSLR… retrofitted with a pinhole lens.

A while ago I got into 3D printing and bought myself a DIY printer. There's a site where people share their 3D designs, and months ago one in particular caught my eye [link] that right there is a Canon EF mount compatible 3D printable pinhole lens. It's little more than a fancy circle of plastic with a tiny hole pricked in the middle. Compared to the multiple glass element, ultrasonic motor, auto stabilising magic lenses Canon produces, this one is almost nothing. Yet I see it as so much. This is a 3D file that was designed 2 years ago by a man in New York, it was then freely uploaded to the internet, where I downloaded it across the world in England, before printing it out in ABS plastic, so now I can hold it in my hand. I think that there is quite incredible.

Another reason I bothered to upload this is that I took it at my childhood park, so it brings back some memories for me. The old fashioned look of the photo I feel makes it look even more like a memory.

Finally, I like trying different photography genres, and this is a really intriguing one to work with. Moreover, I haven't edited this picture at all, which is pretty rare for me.

So there you have it, a blurry photo of a childhood memory, taken through a tiny hole, in a printed lens shared from across the world.

Thanks, it's less exciting than some of my others so it's actually pretty cool seeing people still like it.

When you take the time to look at it properly, it's actually a really effective... effect. I like this muchly.
