Description Contemplated this piece a lot (for obvious reasons), but I am pleased with how professional looking a piece this is (compared to my work to date).

I definitely like how simplistic the image is in itself- black and white, no background, smooth and familiar body shape- and yet how beautiful it is. Tastefully done, and excellent choice of black and white.

I was browsing your gallery and the images called "Concave" and "Convex" caught my eye. It is hard to miss the similarity between these 2 images. Despite the similarity, I enjoy "Concave" much more. The disconnected feet in "Convex" are aesthetically disturbing to me. The feet in my mind cause a lack of balance in the picture. I am not saying anything about the beauty or artisticness of your feet. "Concave" is a wonderful picture. Normally I prefer color pictures but in "Concave", what is truly wonderful is the lighting and the curve of your body and color would, in my mind, add nothing to this picture. Thank you very much for your gallery, especially for "Concave".

I agree, I prefer 'concave' personally. All of my pieces are experimentation, seeing what works and what doesn't. I like 'Convex' for the shapes I'm forming and the way in which the viewer can imagine what position I am in...this 'filling in the blank' nature to the piece. That is a concept I enjoy working with.

As for colour, I sometimes wander into colour, but I prefer B&W there is something classical and romantic about it that colour can't always bring across.

Thank you for browsing my work, and your insightful comment.

From an artistic point of view, this picture is attractive. However, the shape of the body does not complete the intention. I know your body is beautiful, but another body, with more shape, is needed to express the sense of the real idea of the picture.

More curves are needed, more sinuosity.
you know I like your work

More curves...either your suggesting more of the body in shot, or you are suggesting I use a larger/fuller model. I do not understand what you mean by "express the sense of the real idea of the picture" please clarify.

Hi there!
As far as I have seen, your body is beautiful, perfect for any artist who enjoys arts. At the beginning, I did not know it was you. I thought you were just taking pictures from another model. Eventually, I understood...

However, I am just suggesting you might use another model for those two specific pictures. The conception is wonderful, but it is not the right model.

Remember, it is just a suggestion. As an artist you are the one who decides what the best is. You know what you really want ...

Well I'd really like to work with some athletic models but there arent many willing liberal minded people round here Nor do I have the use of a studio with privacy. I only have my small room to work in

Well! as an artist, I feel you are giving your first steps. Sometimes, we cannot find all what we want when we want it.
You are doing what you have to do and what you can do. So, you are doing the right things. You are young and adventurous. Eventually, you will find all what you need.
Can I ask you what is the name of the city where there are not too many liberal minds?
Just curiosity.

I am writing from USA, but I am from Venezuela.

It's a great shot, and never get too hung up over whether an image is a photographic cliche; it is impossible to be fully original, because practically every aspect of the nude (or any other subject) will have been done before somewhere by someone. The important thing is that you know the difference between copying something and being creative and you shouldn't apologise every time you post something that looks familiar.

I'd even go so far as to say that you ought to be copying a certain amount of work - deliberately. Take a given style, master it, then put you own spin on it. Being truly original carries a certain danger - if you are constantly censoring your work and thoughts becasue it's already 'been done' then you are in danger of closing your mind to possibilities. Relax and go with it.

What you achieve with the setup you have is remarkable.

Well I know thats a possibility, I do really like the styles of the old masters, but I don't know if I should carry on with this sort of photography mainly becuase I'm very torn over my work.

Majority of people prefer my 'man in the street' work to this, in truth I enjoy capturing those moments but in terms of the final piece they don't bring me the same level of happiness as my 'studio like' model work.

My other half tells me its if I like it what matters, damn the rest of them lol. I should do what I like doing. But the fact is since an early age pleasing others has been ingrained in me and I find it very hard to always do something that I like and not care what others think.

I have one of those keyring name things (Sarah and it's meaning) and it says "She cares what is thought of her" and thats me down to the ground.

In conclusion, I feel lost with my work and a little down trodden - I get like this from time to time. I don't know where to go from this point.

It's difficult, because you do need to find your own 'voice,' but you still have to acknowledge the fact that you are a composite of all of the influences surrounding you, and ultimately they will become part of that voice too. Now, if knowledgable people are telling you that the 'man in the street' work is actually better than the studio shots (and don't belittle it by calling it studio-like) then that is something to consider. If you are exhibiting a strength, don't ignore it.
Bear in mind the fact that if you are going to make a living out of photography - whether it's as a teacher, writer/photographer, stock photographer or photographic artist, then you'd better get used to pleasing other people, and to get good at it.
I don't see it as an all-or-nothing choice. Do it all, diversify, and do the art/studio shots when the muse takes you there.

Having spoken with you at some length I know how much you'll have thought before submitting this, but I think it was a good call. There are several aspects of this one that appeal - I like for example the way that the left hand side of the image is curved and flowing across your bum, and how the line of your spine then leads the eye into the more angular form of your shoulder-blades. You've lit this very nicely and I also really like the way that the texture of your skin hasn't been lost. The plain background complements this well and looking at this makes me realise just how good an artist you are, and how far I still have to go. Simply put it's a beautiful and thoughtful study of the female form that you have every right to feel proud of.

It may well be the case that there are lots of examples of this kind of portraiture about, but that in no way takes anything away from this work. It's wonderful.
