I gave this mission to you, a rookie, thinking I could use you to fool the rest of the world... But you were too good. You went too far! Solid Snake! I'm not going down alone. I'm taking you with me! Solid Snake: This is Solid Snake... Metal Gear has been destroyed. Operation Intrude N313 was a success! No big deal, job done, that's all... No big deal... I'm coming back now... OVER

Metal Gear used to contain one of the greatest cliffhangers in gaming. The fact that your own Commander was in fact the leader of the enemy resistance the entire time; and was using you. However, with the release of Metal Gear Solid V, a massive wrench was thrown into the plotline... or was it? The introduction of Venom Snake left a lot of questions as his inclusion was seemingly just to explain how Big Boss survived Metal Gear; but... most people just assumed he lived and wanted to take vengeance.

Well, in Metal Gear Solid V, at the end; it's revealed that the Big Boss you thought you were was in fact a fake; a Body double meant to deter and distract Big Boss's enemies, and keep them off his trail. This Big Boss; which goes by the name: Venom Snake was set up specifically to draw attention away from Big Boss.

So, how does this fit into the plot of Metal Gear? It's simple. The entire purpose of Metal Gear and operation N313 was misdirection. Solid Snake is sent into Outer Heaven to provide useless intel to the United States Government, to keep them preoccupied that Outer Heaven is the true threat. In reality; Outer Heaven was little more then a smokescreen for Zanzibar Land; where Big Boss's true base was contained. Which means, that the Metal Gear TX-55 was little more then a shell, meant to make the government panic. This is why they carpet bomb Outer Heaven after Snake escapes.

However, Solid Snake wasn't meant to finish his assignment as fast as he did. As Venom Snake points out; he was too good, and went too far. This is because they expected since Solid Snake was a rookie at the time, his mission would give them plenty of time too let Big Boss build his Metal Gear D to begin his attack. However; Solid Snake goes BEYOND this, not only destroying Metal Gear TX-55, but also killing Venom Snake, a man believed to be an equal to Big Boss.

The completion of Operation N313 resulted in the Government finding Zanzibar Land before they were supposed too; and giving them time to send Solid Snake in too diffuse that situation as well.
