So here's an honest question; Old School Sega fans; does anyone, at all, remember Streets of Rage? Or Bare Knuckle as it was known as in Europe.

Just curious, because it seems like any gamer I have ever talked to about older games has never heard of this series; a classic beat em up for the Sega Genesis, pitting 3 Law Enforcers against a gang of cutthroat thugs led by the Notorious Mr. X; who rules a city without law, with an iron fist. Think "Escape from New York" but with old time thugs, rather than insane homicidal maniacs.

The series was composed of 3 games for the Sega Genesis; and each gradually added more. This is actually the first series I can recall where it's possible to become evil! Yes; in the first Streets of Rage; though difficult; if playing Two Player mode; it's possible for one player to betray his friend and literally become the villain yourself. Though this involves playing through multiple hard stages again; so you've really got to work for it. I'm not a big fan of beat em ups personally; but this and Golden Axe are without doubt my favorites.

Sadly, this series was ultimately forgotten due to Sega's Head of Directors not knowing what the series was; an undeserving fate for such a good series; but it still lives on as a fantastic beat em up genre. You can get all 3 on the "Sega Genesis & Mega Drive Classics" on PS3, XBox 360 and Steam if you're curious.
