"Well that's about all the studying I can do tonight. I'm totally wiped. Do you mind if I crash here tonight?" Mitch asked Kirstin yawning. The two had been studying for hours and had only gotten through half of their math homework.
Kirstin yawned. "I guess, it's too late to be out walking anyways. There have been reported wolf attacks in the area recently."
Mitch smiled and started putting his books back into his bag. He spent so much time at Kirstin's apartment that he had his own room. The same was true about his apartment as well, Kirstin had her own room there for nights similar to this one as well. After a quick "good-night" Mitch went to bed.
The next morning Mitch woke up to the songs of birds drifting in through the open window. Stretching, he got out of bed and changed. It was his favourite part of the week, the weekend. He could finish his homework and still have time to go shopping with Kirstin for her next competition.
"Morning Kirstin. Sleep well?" Mitch asked as he entered the kitchen.
"I slept okay I guess. I'm still having nightmares about breaking my ankle in rehearsal for the Tango. You are coming to the competition next weekend right?" she replied piling fried eggs onto two plates and handing one to Mitch.
"Of course, have I ever missed a competition? I like seeing the looks on the other dancer's faces when you wipe the floor with them," Mitch replied with a smile while handing Kirstin a fork.
In all honesty Mitch hated ballroom dancing, but when they were kids Mitch promised he would go to every competition. In return, Kirstin went to all his poetry readings and his band's gigs.
After a quick breakfast the two got back to work on their homework. Math too the longest since Mitch had to constantly explain how a formula worked for Kirstin to understand how to use it. Byt the time they had finished all their homework they had three hours before the mall closed.
It took ten minutes to run from Kirstin's apartment to the mall. When they arrived, Kirstin headed straight for the costume shop where she got all her outfits for her competitions.
"Hello Kirstin. I see you have brought Mitch along like always. How long before your next competition?" Mr.Ramone, the shopkeeper asked.
"A week. I finally got enough homework done that I could come get my stuff for the competition. Have you finished my outfits yet?" Kirstin replied coming up to the counter.
With a nod, Mr.Ramone went to the back of the shop. A few seconds later he reappeared with three beautiful gowns. One was a black and bright red flamenco style dress that Mitch knew Kirstin would be wearing for both the Tango and the Rumba. The second was a pink fifties style dress used in the Jive. The last was the most beautiful of the three. It was a royal purple colour and would flow beautifully as Kirstin did the Vietnamese Waltz.
"Oh my gosh they look better than I imagined. Thank you so much Mr.Ramone. You really are amazing," Kirstin exclaimed taking the dresses from the pleased shop owner.
"You truly out did yourself this time, Mr.Ramone. Are you going to the competition to watch Kirstin win in your creations?" Mitch asked.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world. Now run along Kirstin, you still have to find the perfect shoes to match. Don't worry about Ben's outfits, they match yours perfectly," Mr.Ramone smiled.
With one last smile, Kirstin and Mitch left the costume shop. Kirstin knew that Mitch hated shoe shopping so she suggested that they meet in the food court an hour later. With a smile, Mitch agreed.
The first stop was the bookstore. Mitch wandered through the rows of shelves, looking for anything that peaked his interest. Midway through the supernatural section of the store, Mitch stopped. He scanned the shelves unsure of what it was he was looking for when he came across a dust covered volume of vampire legends. Walking up to the counter, Mitch wondered if this book could be useful material for one of his own novels. He paid for the book and left the store, heading to the music store next.
"Hey Casey got anything new in this week?" Mitch asked one of the guys behind the counter.
Mitch was a frequent customer and was also in a band which Casey had started a year or so ago. The two were great friends and shared a passion for both writing and music.
"Not this week but the new Linkin Park cd comes out next Friday. I'll bring a copy to rehearsal next weekend," Casey replied.
Mitch nodded in response and walked to his favourite section of the store, the European Gothic section. He dug through piles of cds until he came across the one Within Temptation album he didn't yet own. He kept digging and came across a band he had only heard rumors about in chatrooms and message boards. The band was called Theatres Des Vampires. According to all internet sources their music had a vampiric theme to it which made them unique. Mitch grabbed a couple of their cds and went up to the counter. Checking his cellphone, he realized it was time to go meet Kirstin.
"Kirstin over here!" Mitch called spotting her looking around the crowded food court.
Kirstin smiled and gracefully walked over to the table where Mitch was seated. She put her shopping bags down on a chair. Mitch chuckled to himself. Judging from the amount of bags, all with different names on them, Kirstin had been in every shoe store in the mall. Mitch smiled and returned to eating his chili cheese fries.
"How can you eat that junk?" Kirstin asked wrinkling her nose in disgust while pulling her salad closer to her.
"The same way you can live off salads and protein shakes," Mitch replied taking another bite of his fries.
"Touche," she replied, picking up her fork and starting to eat.
The two ate in silence after that. Mitch was lost deep in thought. Since he had finished tutoring Kirstin that morning, he was free to go home and work on his poetry. He also thought about learing the new song that Casey had given him earlier that week.
"Well I think it's about time I headed home. Thanks for helping me with math," Kirstin said breaking the silence.
"Any time. I'm thinking I should probably head home too, I have a song I have to learn and some poetry I'd like to work on. I'll see you Monday," Mitch said giving Kirstin a quick hug.
After their good-byes the two went their separate ways. Mitch had a half hour walk to his apartment, although if he wanted to he could've taken the bus. The night was unusually warm for mid-April. The sky was cloudless, allowing the stars' brilliance to shine. Even the air was still, not even a slight breeze stirred the tree tops.
Mitch walked slowly, enjoying the stillness and calm the night brought. He started to hum a few notes of one of his band's songs when he passed a dark-haired girl.
He turned as she passed, recognizing her from somewhere the he couldn't name. As she disappeared down the street, Mitch couldn't help but feel as if they would meet again. He shook his head to clear his thoughts and continued his journey home.
