Description   "Hey Mitch, wait up!" Kirstin called, running to catch up with him.

"Oh, hi Kirstin. I didn't see you," Mitch replied stopping at his locker to grab the books for his next class.

"Well that doesn't surprise me, you've been in a daze since we got here. What's going on?" she asked with concern written all over her face.

Mitch was silent. He didn't want to talk about the nightmare or the beautiful woman who saved him the previous night. Kirstin had a way of blowing things out of proportion, and right now he didn't need her rambling on about the meanings of dreams or even destiny.

"It's nothing. Can we talk about it later?"

Kirstin nodded. "Sure, I guess. Let's hurry or we'll be late for English."

The two hurried to their third period class. On the way Mitch bumped into Jessica, a senior, like him and Kirstin, who stood out. She had long wavy hair the colour of cocoa, a tattoo of an angel on her shoulder and always seemed to be alone. Her green eyes were cold and unfeeling.

Mitch shivered. "Sorry Jessica I didn't see you."

"Don't let it happen again. Now get out of my way," Jessica replied, pushing past Kirstin.

"Wonder what her problem is," Kirstin said annoyed.

Mitch didn't say anything. The way Jessica talked reminded him of Ester. It surprised him that he couldn't stop thinking about her, how her amethyst eyes sparkled when she looked at him, even her amused smile. This silence must have alerted Kirstin because suddenly she was facing him with a stern expression of annoyance.

"We're skipping English. No protests," she said grabbing his arm and dragging him in the direction of the cafeteria.

  "But Kirstin..." Mitch started.

"Don't care. You're going to tell me what's going on and you're going to tell me right now!" Kirstin exclaimed, some anger and annoyance leaking into her words.

Mitch gave in. There was no point in fighting her, he knew he couldn't win. The two entered the cafeteria a few moments later. Kirstin forced Mitch to sit at his usual table.

  "Talk."

"Fine. I was attacked last night on my way home from work. This woman saved me. She was incredibly beautiful. Her eyes were the colour of amethyst and her hair as black as raven's wings with blood soaked tips. And the way she talked was just amazing, commanding but soft," Mitch said. "I dreamt about her last night; but what scared me was she turned into a fanged monster. There was also a giant wolf like thing standing before her. It disturbed me so much I didn't go back to sleep once I'd woken up."

Kirstin knew that Mitch hated her lecturing about the meaning of dreams so she kept her reply simple. "What do you think it means?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's nothing but a nightmare brought on by post-traumatic stress," Mitch answered, uncertainty painting his voice in a shaky layer of doubt.

"Well from what you've told me it sounds like you rescuer turned into a vampire and was protecting you from the wolf. Like you said, it could be just a normal nightmare; it could also be more than that, but there is no way to tell," Kirstin told him. "Please don't let it bother you so much. At least you're alive."

Mitch nodded. He hoped that Kirstin was right about the dream. He gave her a small smile of thanks and got to work on the English they should be doing in class. Kirstin followed his lead but her mind wasn't on the work, it was focused on the dream Mitch had. They worked silently, neither one brave enough to speak again in case the dream really was more than it seemed.
