Chapter Two: Call of SirensHe woke up slowly hearing snippets of words "Yeah he probably hasn't slept that well lately, you know how Caleb gets," he heard from the other room; it was Sage's voice.
"Yeah that was partially why I came over; you know I think each time he finds a girl he just looses it kinda, and I don't know why. I mean the boy knows deep down he's worth something, that we all have loved or will love him forever yet he keeps…." replied Kayta's voice. The rest of the sentence was drowned out by the sound of running water. He made a grunting noise and he heard footsteps toward the door
"Mornin', Sleepy Head," Sage said from the doorway. She brought a glass of water and some aspirin. Gods, he never experienced this type of hangover before, but then again, he had never been this drunk.
"What, did you two do stay the night?" he inquired moving the black-out curtains away and hissing at the sunlight
"Yes, dummy, do you really think we'd leave you when you need us the most?" That stung ever-so slightly, it felt like she was saying it to emphasize that he was helpless. Maybe he was, he wasn't sure any more. All he was sure of was nearly a week ago now he had, had his heart ripped out by some one he thought he could trust. But trust was a word he rarely ever used with people. Hell, two of the four people he truly trusted were in his house taking care of him. The other two, well one had a husband and he was sure she couldn't just drop everything to come for him, and also he was sure he would have at least two letters in the mail from her, if not three or four emails. This comforted him little. His mind wanted so much to travel back but he knew it was worthless. She was gone never to be here again, and he could hear the words she said to him as he left…
"I need someone more stable! You have lost your touch Master, and you know it. You fucking scare the shit out of me half the time and then act like a baby the other half"
He closed his eyes, he didn't want to remember. Too bad that was all he could do, all her words were justified in a way. He had lost his touch ever since he had lost his job at the tattoo parlor because of an altercation with a customer. To top all this off he had been growing surlier with everyone, because of problems with his mother, but that didn't excuse taking it out on her verbally and he knew it, he also knew his problems lied not in her, but within himself.
He hadn't had a good life, he was plagued with self doubt because of the bullying he received in high school, and the fact that his sister had died when he was ten. An accident, yet, still he felt responsible being the big brother and all he should of known something would go wrong. He had been forever haunted by her fear in her eyes, and that was what part of the breaking point had been, he kept seeing her and it disturbed him to no end.
-----------------
It had been a day that he had loved. He and his best friend were watching his ten year old sister at the park,. They were also watching the girls and doing stupid shit on their skateboards to try and impress them. He and his friend then left his sister alone and disappeared to chase one of the skirts they had impressed, he would forget what had happened with the girl but not what he saw when he returned with his best friend and found his sister gone. They searched high and low to no avail. Then when they went home he told his parents who let into him, they then reported the missing girl. She was found days later in a gutter having been raped and beaten. Someone marked her with an X as a last disgrace to the beautiful girl she had been in life. Caleb wouldn't forget having seen one of the crime scene photos on the news that night and crying his eyes out. That had been his light in the storm, that sister, but now she was nothing. Nothing but a cheap and tawdry thing that someone had hunted...
----------------
He was only snapped to by Sage's voice, "You're thinking about Jayne aren't you?"
He nodded solemnly, "It was my fault and you know it Sage, no matter how much my parents reassured me that I couldn't have known I should have, three other girls went before her." Caleb sighed and tried to push up off the bed feeling weak he collapsed back onto the bed. Sage placed a hand on his chest and said:
"You stay here OK?" she got up and continued "I'll get your breakfast."
He smiled inwardly, Sage, how much in truth did he care for her, this girl had met him only days after the grisly discovery of his sister's body, she was only fourteen and a freshman at school, he was a junior and instead of poking fun at her with his best friend he took her under his wing. Partially because he needed to help someone to get his mind off of it, partially because she was cute to him. They had hit it off, and from that moment forward they were barely inseparable. He even lost his friend, not for trying but he just couldn't stand Sage, and Caleb told him if he couldn't handle it then he needed to leave because he sure as hell wasn't going to tell Sage to leave, of course. Sage had been privy to his feelings during this time, and each time he had a nightmare she was the one he called. Also during this time he had started having a perverse mind, he knew that his appetites wouldn't be sated with just normal sexual activities, and he found himself drawn to the fetish scene, he expressed this to Sage and she agreed that she two had been having these feelings, but they waited, until she was eighteen and he twenty-one then slowly they started searching their own appetites.
Truth be told, his best 'pet' had been her. She knew how to follow orders but she also knew when and where to call him on his ass, she was the right mix of submissive and dominant. Sadly, while she was perfect after a year his eyes wandered and he lost contact with her even though she would constantly try and contact him. He had met Angela in a bar one night and instantly the connected. She had been dressed in a corset to die for, purple and black tied up the front and back. She had small breasts but at the same time the corset pushed her breasts up to make someone think she had porn star tits. Normally that would turn Caleb off, but with Angela, it had been enticing, he had watched her dance her way from man to man from the comfort of the bar she approached him and wrote her number on his hand. Part of him wanted to just wash it off and part of him wanted to pursue it even though he had Sage, what had followed had been simultaneously one of the best and worst years in his life thus far. Turned out that Angela had more issues than he could count none the least being the fact that she was a nympho, he didn't mind that, he never minds that as long as the person is honest with him, but with Angela, she would use it against him she would hide it well, though part of him always knew, and it drove him crazy. She collared him, not the other way around and that's when things went even crazier he had no say in what she did, she would disappear for days and weeks only to return when she needed someone who would honestly listen.
The worst part was, he fell for it. Every time. He stuck with her for a year only to finally explode upon her one night in a rage over the phone he threw the collar at her the next time he saw her and gave her everything back. He knew they weren't meant, and he left her alone for two to three years afterward only to have her become one of his best friends, he told this story to Elia, but left out details because originally he was still confused and mad at Angela. That lead to issues and he knew it would, he had to cut off all contact with her, which pissed Angela off to some extent, but she also knew that he was riding his wave, little did they both know that would last two years.
Fast-forward to the present, here he was being taken care of by Sage and Kayta with no Angela in sight and he didn't care, well at least not right now. He rolled over and flipped on his radio reaching for his CD's he put on Tool's AEnima and placed it on the song Eulogy while waiting for Sage to return. He tapped his fingers along with the instrumental start of the song, for some reason he felt comforted by music, he didn't know why, maybe that was something he got from his dad? It seems the elder Walker had loved to listen to music when he couldn't work out his issues that or do yard work, but Caleb had picked up the former of the two "You claimed all this time/That you would die for me/Why then are you so surprised to hear your own E-u-l-ogy," he sang along, not surprised when Sage came back in swishing her lower half to the song, the girl loved to dance, and Caleb always enjoyed watching her dance, he had enjoyed it when she would dance for him. She set the breakfast down and handed him the forgotten glass of water and aspirin.
"Take them before I shove them down your throat", she said in a caring way.
Caleb smiled inwardly and he guessed that she could read him like a book cause the only thing that came out of her mouth next was "There's the Dragon we've been missing," he had no clue what she meant though.
Kayta came in next, she sat next to the bed where a chair was placed, he looked over and remembered watching over Elia in this way at night when he couldn't sleep, and then he couldn't help himself after he had choked down the aspirin, he let out a sob and started to cry, Sage reached over the tray she had given him and touched his hand almost stroking it, then Kayta caressed his shoulder.
"It'll be okay Caleb, you'll see we know you don't right now but you will" they both said in unison.
He started to eat the eggs Sage had prepared and contemplated his two friends. Sage was now twenty, almost twenty one if he remembered correctly. Kayta, she was his age but often times acted older because of the fact that she'd had an even tougher time than him, he met her on one of his first visits to Erotic Nightshade she had been floating around just people watching. Caleb had been watching Sage flirt with a beautiful woman wondering if they would take the other woman back with them later in the night, then completely forgetting that he should have been watching Sage, Kayta had captured his attention. The thing was, she felt like that inescapable object, the one you yearn to get to know but really only ever shows up when you need it. so as many times as Caleb has ever been around the girl she was still an enigma wrapped in human flesh.
That wasn't to fault Kayta, she had been there when he needed her, and in truth they had come close to making love on more than a handful of occasions. But it was either because she was committed or he was. Obviously if there was some grand scheme to it all Kayta still had her part to play in this, and Caleb was willing to wait.
The three sat there for an hour, as Caleb sobbed and had his share of memories and finally, Kayta brought up the idea of going to the club again to which Caleb said, "In the end I've never really found someone I've connected with there, I don't know why you two are pushing me, I just don't feel ready" which was partially true the other fact was he was avoiding it knowing that Elia would be back on the slaves block and he didn't want to chance running into her even though Sage had said that she had taken care of her, Caleb wanted to err on the cautious side.
Sage only smiled at this and said "But Caleb, you haven't even seen my latest outfit!" she said with a mischievous grin playing on her lips, to which the wounded man had no counterpoint because in truth Caleb hadn't seen any of his friends in a year. Having resigned himself to this he shrugged "OK but not tonight. I feel like crap for one and, would you look at me? I haven't had anything done with my hair in I don't know how long! I tell you what, girls, I'm going to give you a chance to do what you always wanted to do, and help me pick out some new clothes, but I'm getting my hair cut and dyed!" he said knowing full well that all this visit was, in truth was a Siren song, these two knew how to get him to do anything and they would. They always did.

"You fucking scare the shit out of me half the time and then act like a baby the other half" - Totally like my boyfriend loll, I can relate to that... -.-
"She had been dressed in a corset to die for, purple and black tied up the front and back" - ZOMG I am so dying for one like that.
And nice soundtracks again!

Well thats the thing with Caleb, he's learning in this book. In the beginning of Pet Shop he's very much calm cool and collective but through the two years that he's been with her it's been like a poison running through his veins; the relationship has no victims they were both wrong for each other, they just never realized it.
I think you'd look pretty good in a corset like that, and I'm very very glad your enjoying my soundtracks!

I must say that I enjoy this chapter more than the first one. You dive right into the past and give extremely extended detail on Caleb's personality as well as his friends. It is very interesting how he manages to connect with (what I would believe to be) sexual chance encounters. Its very humorous in a way because he is in the presence of two women and still continues to sob over a horrible relationship he had with Ophelia.
I think the changing of the names really bring out of the characters. I you have made them more believable... Thomas and Beatrice were cool.. but Caleb and Ophelia seem to flow better.
Also, I have really fallen in love with the narrator... the way your story is worded seems like somebody is sitting around gossiping about what happen to a gay named Caleb. The narrator is very relaxed and uses cursed words which really makes it seem like they are having a conversation. You have a very unique design and its really working in your favor. The story flows and you give the reader information on the main characters life... you let us know that even though he may seem macho (with these girls around and slaves) he is really a very emotional person.
