Description Here's a little shading practice I did, featuring the lovely Nil. I believe shading is my biggest weakness when it comes to digital drawing. Though I'm rather proud of how it looks here. Its far from the best shading one can make but I think it rather fit my style. Please do share your thoughts! It always help and I greatly appreciate any opinions, as long as they're helpful!

I also made some modifications to Nil's design, to fit better into my worldbuilding project in which he now reside. I also tried to make it a bit more obvious that he isn't just a demonic cat, and that his head is meant to be that shape. He is a Daeci, which are basically Tainted Garans, which are a race of shapeshifting humanoids with feline AND canine characteristic. Though Nil is of the more feline kind, called Sanctals. One day I'll share a bit more of that project. One day.

Anyway, hope y'all like that sketch of an eternally unsure Nil.

Just now
Oh wow I’ve missed seeing your art so much, especially Nil. It’s so cool to see how far you’ve come from when I first saw your art on flipnote and we did that ancient collab. You always seem to nail the anatomy which I’m super jelly of. Love the colors especially the accents of red you used, it really fits well with the piece. Can’t wait to see more art from you!!!

(Also have you gotten my note?)

Thanks a lot! I still have a long way to go but I'm proud of how far I've come! And anatomy is one thing I think I'm good at!

And no I didn't get any note. Maybe send it again?

Okay I’ll try sending it out to you again! Sorry about the delay, I’ve been having some WiFi issues due to storms

woah this looks fantastic! ;o; I love Nil's new tail too, it looks pretty rad <3
All the colors in the shading look so pretty too~
I agree with omegapon3 about the texture, but I am still trying to figure out fur shading myself so I can't really offer any help haha... it's a lot harder digitally as well. But it certainly looks amazing as it is! Especially with all the darkness around him; it's an amazing piece~
Your shading is always gorgeous and the improvement in this one is very visible so awesome job! <3

Thanks! I'm really trying to improve on my shading and I know I still got a long way to go. I'm gonna practice more on fur shading next time! At least now I got the basics I think

The subtle use of color as well as light and dark is done well, but you're shading everything like it has the same texture. You have good texture in your line work, and even between different colors of fur, but fur, even short smooth fur, doesn't reflect light as a single smooth surface. (Try looking at references of huskies or wolves to see how light acts on their fur and see how you can replicate it maybe?)
