Description Did I mention that I’m a HUGE Dean Yeagle fan?

Several months ago I found myself without a working computer. A friend of mine owns a computer repair shop and he gave me a box of older Mac G3 iBook parts. With the help of some online building guides and eBay (for parts) I was able to put together two systems.
During the build I discovered that the cases of the G3 models were actually made up of clear polycarbonate material with white paint on the inside. I then learned that rubbing alcohol would remove the white paint. Now for some fun!
For the first laptop (the top one) I printed Dean’s Mandy character in reverse onto clear stickers – this made the face of the stickers have the sticky part and since the stickers were clear Mandy’s image was oriented correctly when attached to the inside of the case. Once that was done I repainted the inside with white Krylon for Plastics spray paint. I then slid a thin red tinted film underneath the white opaque Apple logo. When the laptop is off the logo appears white, but it glows a pinkish-red when it’s on. The iBooks got a new name as well – I call them MandyBooks.

I didn’t start on the second laptop right away because there was one more thing to do with the first MandyBook – I boxed it up and sent it to Dean Yeagle. I couldn’t very well call myself a fan and then steal from the artist I admire so I offered the MandyBook as payment for permission to do another one for myself. Dean – the nicest guy in the world – gave me the thumbs up to use his images on my MandyBook (the bottom one).

I used basically the same techniques to make my MandyBook. The only real difference was that I shot the backs of each sticker with white paint before I attached them to the inside of the case and then I shot the whole thing again with a navy blue. This way a lovely blue color appears in the gaps between the images.

Unfortunately, my MandyBook died after only 3 months. I bought a G4 on eBay and switched covers so I could still have Mandy on my laptop. The cover doesn’t quite fit right on the new laptop but it works well enough. I sure hope Dean’s MandyBook has faired better.

Thanks – I’ve since purchased a MacBook, but I like my MandyBook so much I find myself using it a lot of the time – especially surfing the web and watching DVDs.

Dean was really cool to let me use his images. He really is the nicest guy in the world.

Ya' it would be hard to give up something that cool.

I bought all of dean's books for myself for Xmas and he gave me a original Mandy sketch as a gift given the size of purchase. Now that I'll treasure !

Same here. I also got a couple of prints and an original from “One Mandy Morning” and he still drew me an extra Mandy.
Did you get the new book “Melange”? It’s bigger – and that’s better! Also if you haven’t seen it, he has a DVD that shows how he draws Mandy. It’s a must-have! Very cool. He plans to come out with a second DVD that shows how he colors her in Photoshop – don’t know when it will be available though.

I haven't seen the DVDs, but I have all the books including Melange. Someday I hope to get the Mandy figure as well.

Me too, finding it will be tough I fear.
Oh and I forgot, I also got a Mandy T-shirt! He might still have a few of these left.

try Electrictiki.com (Tracy is his name as I remember) as I recall he's the one that makes the figure.

RATS! The order form is gone.
Oh well, I think I remember Dean saying that they were all sold – at least he thought they were at the time.
In the meantime I’ll keep checking eBay…

Tracy really needs to keep his site up to date.
I'd check some of the sites that specialize in figures
