Description The Kentucky Sate Police (KSP) have a camp called Troop Island. The camp is an actual island located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Cumberland, KY. KSP runs the summer camp for underprivileged, troubled, and special need kids. It’s their way of reaching out and turning kids around that might one day be headed for trouble. The camp has an amazing success rate – it seems that every other Trooper you meet is a former member of the camp!

I did this painting called “When I Grow Up” which obviously depicts a little boy dreaming of growing up and becoming a state trooper. I also did a second painting called “When I Grow Up Too” which shows a little girl having the same dream. Both paintings were put into print.

A little more than a third of the money from the sale of each print goes right to Trooper Island.

Someone asked me what I did when I wasn’t playing around here trying to learn pastels. Well, this is some of what I do.

That's a lovely story, well done on the print also, like the flag on the chair and the little boy is really sweet, I hope he got his dream

Thanks, these really mean a lot to me. I mainly do police and firefighter paintings and I always give a portion back to their memorial fund. This fund is used to help the families of fallen comrades.
The state police don’t want that. I’ve done 4 paintings for them and they always want the money to go to Trooper Island. I’ve never met a group of people so committed to their community.

BTW The little boy is actually the son of the trooper I used in the dream.
