Designed to replace the rapidly aging Essex II and Lola III classes the Typhon outgunned and out performed the older vessels by a huge margin. Fast, well armed and flexible thanks to its 20 fights and 2 DropShip docking collars the Typhon was also heavily armoured and far more suited to the individual actions that Clan WarShips found themselves embroiled in. But due to the resources used in constructing the new ship, it was simply uneconomical to replace the older ships, most Clans simply didn't bother replacing their older vessels and instead subjected them to a series of upgrades and modernizations to match the modern combat enviroment.
