Description
For some reason I recently ended up replaying a bunch of my old favorites from the PSP era, and sitting at the top of those would be the Patapon series. So I drew Wondabarappa from Patapon 3 because drawing most normal Patapons would be way too easy because why not.is the fanbase still alive ;w;

Honestly I think the third game is the weakest. Still kinda fun, but there's way too many RPG elements. Winning comes to having good stats, while rhytm is less important (that's at least what I feel). And only 4 patapon is also a bummer.

I actually like Patapon 3 more than the others precisely for the things you mentioned. The added RPG elements add complexity and diversity to the combat and equipment, and the change to 4 units encourages better strategizing to keep them all alive. Makes the game more frustrating at times, but ultimately also a smarter and more challenging game, which I appreciate.
Also, I find that rhythm is more important in 3 than in the previous two games. Aside from maintaining Fever and getting into Hero mode, there are also subtle bonuses for perfect timing, such as melee units getting 2 hits in instead of 1, or increased healing by Pingrek, whereas 1 and 2 had nothing of the sort (that I could notice).
Not saying the other games are any worse for not having these, I just personally appreciate most of the changes Patapon 3 brought.
I tried so hard to keep this short and still failed >n<

It's all about stats, so when you get hit you'll just lose some hp.(but no patapon died, so you have the same firepower) In 1 and 2 you had an army, and if you screwed something one precise hit could take out half of it. (which means a smaller chance of winning) You had more units, but they were weaker so every move counted more (especially in boss battles).
"and the change to 4 units encourages better strategizing to keep them all alive" Every of those 4 units is as strong as a hero in 2 so keeping them alive is much easier. Your point is entirely backward here.
1 and 2 were all about an army, a tribe you had to command. It was the key feature. Patapon 3 threw that all out.
2 expanded on the ideas of the first one, added more rpg elements while still being true to it's roots. Patapon 3 is none of that.

"It's all about stats"? ...Yeah, for the most part you're right there. I personally enjoy that, though, so it's not a problem for me.
It's not that keeping the 4 units alive is harder than previous games. My point was more that each unit always felt important, if not absolutely necessary. As a result, in the event you lose even one unit, it has a much larger impact on the outcome of the mission. It always felt as if, at least in 2, you could survive in missions with most of your squad wiped, especially if your Hero was particularly powerful (mine always were), whereas in 3 I've not encountered any situation where I feel confident taking on equal-leveled missions with weak/underleveled or downed units. (No comment about 1 because that game is the most balanced of the three.)
As for 3 deviating from its "command an army" roots, I also agree; it traded that out for the premise of leading a band of four heroes. I actually enjoy both equally, though, so that's not a problem for me either.
Note that these are coming from someone who put in 300+ hours into Patapon 2 and about half that in 3, and actually preferred 2 over 3 for years before I returned to the series recently, played both games side-by-side and found that I enjoyed 3 more than 2 (by a small margin).
I like 1 a lot. It just doesn't have as much content or variety as the sequels, so I prefer them more.
Also, I do hope this is still just a friendly discussion about the strengths/weaknesses of the Patapon games. Each game has enough merit individually to be considered a good game, I think; I'm just stating my not-very-objective opinion on why 3 is my favorite.
These just keep getting longer, don't they

I think noone likes the first one the most (: (awesome game, but like you said: sequels just have more of everything)

oh man. so I take it you've never heard of Patapon before? it's a rhythm real time strategy game and one of my favorites. this is one of the Hero characters from the third game.
