Description 1) Start with a gesture. It can be a scribble, but it must indicate Weight, Balance and Proportion!

2) Add structure. Build the figure out of simple shapes.

3) Here we have gesture and structure working together.
A happy drawing.

Something I have trouble with is establishing the proportions at the beginning of my drawings. Using the "eight head method" seems more complicated than helpful. It seems you don't use that method yourself. Would you say I should draw them by eye then?

What about rhythm, Sheldon?  Oddly, neither you nor Glenn Vilppu use that word in describing the basic process.  Still, when GV says 1) action, 2) volume, 3) detail, it's clear that he means rhythm when he says action.  But it's not clear to me where it fits into your framework. Can you elaborate?

BTW- I have been working on comic book illustration, on inking in particular, through which I've come to see rhythm as having two components - flow and vibe.   Flow is the rhythm of the contour/outline/silhouette of shapes, whereas vibe is the rhythm of patterns describing surfaces (i.e. rendering shade/shadow/tone/texture).

That's a good way to start, all the tutorials helped me a lot.

But, how do you solve a scene when two or more persons are interacting, for example, in a hug...

I took sheldon's class and in general you have to observe but also practice. A LOT. You need to go ahead and observe the figures, observe real human interactions then use his technique and generalize it then build it up.

The best way I can put it is, you knock it all down then build it back up.
