This is Buddy Gidget, the gadgeteer.

Buddy is a bit of a special case, pony. As an earth pony, he lacks the flight of the pegasi and the magic of the unicorns; but unfortunately he lacks even the skill-craft and strength of most earth ponies. Being scared of uselessness, he puts on his favorite goggles and decided that if he can't be skilled or powerful, he can at least make up for it with brains. He studied his flank off and learned how to use tools and picked up a good degree of creativity while he figured out how to get what he needed. He was certainly a late bloomer for his cutie mark, but finally managed to pick it up upon his creation of the heli-cycle.

Despite his extended knowledge, Buddy is still a slow learner and somehow a bit of an idiot. Buddy has a tendency of over-estimating his abilities in putting a helping hoof forward to see a happy ending. His projects usually put him on misadventures, but you'd be damned if he never stops trying to improve. His friends like to test his abilities, and are always there to catch him when the experiments and contraptions go awry. Oh how it's nice to have friends!
