Description
Here's a piece of concept art I worked on for Interstellar Rift, a gameΒ which is currently in development where you build your own space ship piece by piece. You can already play the Pre-Alpha. Check their site out here: www.interstellarrift.com/
This is the base level suit for female characters, on top of which players should be able to equip various gear. Glowy rave lights come standard.

I'm not sure what to call it as far as style. Partly my own general style. Chalky/matte instead of shiny this time.

We all have to start somewhere, my work used to look like that too
You're already practicing linework and sometimes cell shading. For me, instead of separating things into parts like lines vs colors, I just treat it like a traditional painting. If you'd like to get good at more realistic shading, then jump right into it.

Ah, well art that doesn't focus on lineart or other highly stylized aspects is just called "painting". From there the differences are between each artist in what individual techniques they use. Everyone has some little tricks, but at the end of the day it's all about grabbing a brush and painting some color.

Very nice, you always draw women practical with just a hint of sex appeal; it's a great combo.

As usual, your artwork is lovely! I like the design! The colors are great, the suit looks good and also practical. Awesome!

This does not read as female, at all. It took me a while to notice the breasts. I'm not saying you have to make some boxum babe or anything, and the suit design is great, but you have to face some anitomical facts. Even if you want the character to be heavier set, she still needs to follow the guilelines of female anatomy. I could link you to reference or something like that but a google search will turn it up easily enough.
Critique out of the way, I really DO like the costume design, the use of orange and blue, is done well (though I would like it if that orange carried down ino the legs more. maybe a strip on either calf?)Β
Sorry, I know you didn't ask for critique but I could not resist!

Looks perfectly female to me! Not all of us are curvy.

Critiques are fine, though I'd have to disagree on the gender recognizion. I'd bet you money if this art had a face and hair on it you wouldn't have had an issue. Facial recognition counts for a lot and that is absent here as part of the assignment.
To counterpoint, and this isn't intended as a slight against you, if I cover up the breast plate and face on your titan pilot, it likewise carries a near asexual form. To me that's fine.
I get your point, this female isn't overtly feminine, but not all have to be. Pretty sure any proportions I set are going to slide when this is modeled anyway
Thanks for commenting.

Wow! Hey dude, this is wondeful! I already tried to make futurist concepts, but for me, this is so difficult! And when i tryed to improve one concept that i did, i found you, and man, your work is so fantastic! I'm a really fan of your futuristic arts, keep trying the amazing work and improving more and more!Β

While I'm not a fan of the "random glowy bits" style of sci-fi design, the rest of the suit is pretty good.Β Futuristic but still practical looking, something that someone would actually wear outside of a showroom.

I'm loving this concept design.Β I really like how you use just enough lights to add a futuristic effect while showing the observer that the armor is powered without being annoying in the amount of light there is.

tried out the game. Took my 5 minutes to realize that I had no idea what I was going, but its pre-alpha so I really can't complain

Yeah, it looks a bit complex for those just starting. I'm sure you can pick it up after reading a few guides and tinkering with it.

I am a huge fan of a game called space engineers which is very similar to this game, but more of a minecraft style with a focus on a creative mode, so Interstallar rift seems like a butt load of fun! 8DΒ
And to know that they have realistic looking female models instead of overly proportioned versions other games tend to have, is very nice ^-^ I mean, there is NO practicality in having watermelon sized boobs while trying to weld support columns onto an over-head walkway. They will ONLY get in the way 8/Β

I have trouble painting skinny ladies, makes me feel silly when I exaggerate proportions. Though I need to get better at that, just for varieties sake.
