I was bored...um...I _was_ just drawing Neo, but then I realized that the eyes were two different sizes...and I came out with this.Love the lineart. Hate the coloring.
Err...I'm bored. So I'll write a ficlette. About these two. You don't have to read if you don't want, I'm just bored. It's very Legend of Zelda-y, more specifically Ocarina of Time, so if you've played that game you'll understand it better.
---
Place: Kakariko Village, Hyrule
Time: 14 years before Link began his quest for the Triforce
-
He ran his hands through his bright red hair, frowning thoughtfully at the folders in front of him. 'So...it is possible...' he thought, his lips twisting into a crooked smile. 'All I need is a good...specimin.'
Standing, the man, Dr. Yasato Karasu, exited his house and stared around the quaint village. There was nothing really out of the ordinary - the children of the carpenter ran around pointlessly (which was probably what they would be doing the rest of their lives), the sounds of the windmill's gears grinding due to the steady breeze, the House of Skulltulla was as avoided as it always was, and Kaze Mountain loomed overhead.
'None of this will do for my specimin,' the doctor thought with a frown before turning as he heard gentle laughter. Quirking an eyebrow, he saw a woman he had never seen before - long ebony hair, dark purple eyes, and foreign attire he recognized as a Japanese kimono.
'Now what would a woman like that be doing in a place like this?' he asked himself as he slowly walked over to the woman, who was being entertained by one of the carpenter's sons.
"Ah, good'ay, sensei," the boy said, tipping his hat slightly. "See yeh've come out for some sun. You feelin' okay?"
Yasato-sensei laughed quietly at the gentle ribbing of the boy. "Don't you have work to do?"
"Well...um...maybe?" With that, the boy ran off, laughing as he caught up with his brothers.
"Good afternoon, m'lady," Yasato-sensei said, bowing slightly to the young woman. "I don't believe I've ever seen you around here."
"No, I'm just visiting," the woman said with a smile. "My name is Yukaro Aika. And you are...?"
"Doctor Yasato Karasu."
"Ah, hence the 'sensei'."
"Indeed. Listen, my lady, I may seem foreward in asking this, but I'm in a bit of a spot and need assistance. Might I ask you something?"
--
Well, that had been easy. Sitting back in his lab, Yasato-sensei studied the test vial in his hand, even though he couldn't see anything but dark red liquid. One sample of Aika's blood was all he needed to see if it was true - to see if you truly could genetically engineer children from blood samples. He had his own - now all he had to do was wait a few months to see if it would work.
--
"Don't go near that house."
"But why, Mommy?"
"There's no telling what those two monsters might do to you."
"Monsters?"
"Yes. The monster children. Come with me."
A six year old boy sat under the window of a virtually empty cottage - there was nothing in it but two futons and his sister. Though he was young, his silver hair was already ratty and slightly matted, and his purple eyes were clouded over by sorrow and knowledge of pain far beyond his time. Reaching up, Yasato Neo ran his index finger along the scar marring the right side of his face as his lips twisted into the same smile as the doctor's.
"Did you hear what they called us, imoutochan?" he asked quietly, his voice raspy from days of disuse. His favorite activity was sitting in silence, plotting the demise of every other member of mankind.
"Same as always, niisan," the girl in the corner said, her own ratty silver hair falling into her face. Her purple eyes were clouded by the sorrow of her brother, but also by regection, neglect, and fear. Closing her eyes, she pulled her knees to her chest and sighed deeply. "You know it will never change." Her voice reverberated off the walls of the empty enclosure, making her words seem louder than they really were.
"They will one day."
Ever since the day the two were "born" six years ago, the village treated them as a product of witchcraft, debauchery, demonic behavior, and every other sin imaginable in Hyrule. They ordered Yasato-sensei to "keep a leash on them" as it were, and with the doctor's slipping hold on sanity, eventually that 'leash' lost the 'e' as he tended to beat the children regularly to keep them under control, dispite the fact that they never really did anything warrenting it.
So they lived in an empty cottage, with no one but each other for company. Starr was just glad she wasn't male - Yasato-sensei beat her inside the house, while he dragged Neo out in the middle of the road to display his "punishment" in front of the village.
And as soon as the door creaked open, they knew that was what was coming.
Neo tensed, but had long ago stopped showing fear...well, at least in this situation. He remained stiff as his father dragged him outside and began putting him on display, determined to give him a new scar this time.
He was too engrossed in the activity to notice the runaway cart which proceeded to make him one with the dirt beneath his feet.
Neo heard the scream and slowly looked down at the gory remains of his biological father, his muscles seizing up. As he slowly got to his feet, he remembered overhearing a conversation between the village leader and Yasato-sensei.
"If you die prematurely, sensei, we're killing those two."
"Fine with me."
He took advantage of the rest of the village standing in horror to turn and run towards the Kaze Mountain trail, yanking a man's sword out of its sheathe as he ran so as not to be unarmed.
Starr saw him running and burst out of the cottage, stealing another man's sword as she ran towards the village entrance. She knew she would have no chance of getting up the mountain before the other's caught her, but she had enough of an opening there.
As soon as she headed down the staircase, the sun set and the Stalchildren began to rise.
--
He huddled on the alcove above Dodongo's Cavern, hidden enough in the shadow to keep them from seeing him at night. He knew they would be up there in the morning. And since Starr hadn't come this way, he knew they had either killed her in the cottage, or she had gone out into Hyrule Field and had been killed by the Stalchildren. Wherever she had gone, she was dead now.
And he found he didn't care that much.
--
He had been right - in the morning, some of the village's men trekked up Kaze Mountain.
They were flung off the mountain and into the middle of the village, all of them dead before they landed.
--
The Kokiri turned around and looked as the gatekeeper gave a cry of surprise and fell over. A girl with silver hair, covered in blood, and dragging a bloody sword wandered in, looking around at all of them before slowly heading towards the Lost Woods.
"Hey!" a pompous boy shouted, being the first to recover and not seeming to notice the blood. "You can't come in here! I'm Mido, leader of this village, and-"
"Shut up before I slice your head off," the girl said quietly, placing the tip of the sword to his throat. He swallowed nervously as blood dripped onto the front of his tunic, edging out of her way.
She continued, dissapearing into the shadows of Kokiri Forest.
--
"I fear my time hath neared its end. I pray you seek guidence from the Golden Goddesses, and consider joining this quest."
"You sure 'bout that?" Starr asked dully, leaning back on her arms and looking up at the Deku tree from where she sat on the ground. After a week of hanging around in the Lost Woods, the Great Deku Tree had granted her permission to stay as long as she kept the creatures in the Lost Woods from entering Kokiri Forest. That had been eight years ago.
"Eh, okay. But lemme guess, you want Link to go on this thing, right?"
"Indeed."
"But he doesn't even have a faerie. Though, even without a faerie, he's your best bet...and that's sad..."
--
"But Mommy, why can't we go up the mountain?"
"Because that's Death Mountain, and we don't have the king's signature."
"Why do we need it?"
"Because there's a horrible person living up there."
"Is that why 'Kaze' is scratched out on the sign, and 'Death' is written under it?"
"...sort of."
"Will you tell me?"
"When you're older."
Up on the mountain, Neo stared down at the trail. After the incident eight years ago, many attempts to bring him back down had failed. He had been the one who changed the name of the mountain. It seemed more appropriate, and he liked 'Death' better than 'Kaze'.
He laughed quietly and closed his eyes.
He loved being a murderer.

...sorry. Like I said, I was SO bored.
