Looks nice . Cherry really isn't the best for sound boards for some reason . Have you tried a tail piece to tie the strings to , like they do with a violin ? Maple and even oak sound boards seem to work pretty good and are traditional . But heck , people have always made musical instruments from whatever they have to work with . I think the earliest ones were made with turtle shells a skin sound board and sticks for arms " or macho bull horns if you're a Greek god " .

You may think it's sh** wood, but over here in Oz, it costs a mint to buy imported American cherry, walnut or oak. Even our local timber is pricey! I'm currently making a prototype Pictish harp and I'm using crappy stuff like camphor laurel, hoop pine and jarra. I don't even know if it'll hold together once all strung up!

I'd love to make myself a small Celtic lap harp. If you happen to come across a blueprint, lemme know!

sure thing....
I accidentally destroyed my high E string <_<
the Lyre however, is certainly strong enough

I think I totalled countless small strings on my lyre before I realised that I could only tune it so far. What key have you tuned it in? I'd love to hear the sound of your lil' beauty.

I was trying to tune it in C
it worked out until I got to the top string... which didn't snap but instead contunually stretched until it was nearly twice it's origional length
