Looks like another 3D Sunda may be coming up. (what does the name mean anyway?)
I've got a few doubts here. What is supposed to be on the other side of the receiver, when it comes to fire selector, reloading lever and brass ejection window? The same things mirrored, or perhaps just cover plates in those places? And why exactly is the reloading lever folded forward?

Shockwave9001 In reply to xaotherion [2015-06-28 07:01:22 +0000 UTC]
It seems like people like this one a lot! A Sunda is a flying lemur. Al my weapons have animal names, some more familiar than others
The fire selector, charging handle, magazine catch, bolt release catch and ejection port are all present on the other side as well. The only change would be that there's a cover plate on top of the ejection port. You can screw it off, change the bolt head's rotation, and make sure to screw the cover plate onto the other side's ejection port.
By reloading lever I assume you mean charging handle? If so, it's like that to make the gun thinner, and so your charging handle wouldn't get stuck behind clothing, equipment, etc. it folds open, just like the Kriss Vector's charging handle.

xaotherion In reply to Shockwave9001 [2015-06-28 10:28:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, charging handle! That's what I meant.Β Those weapon terms can be hard to get right, when one has no access to the real thing.
So, it does fold forward, I kinda thought it would, but never noticed there's such a solution used in any real weapon. Also a quick search shown that people "are still having some issues with properly charging Kriss Vector". Out of curiosity, should the handle on the other side move along with the right one?
Where's the bolt release catch on this one? Can't exactly put my finger on it... I assume that the window in the back with triangle arrows marked on it is the ejection window?
I forgot to ask about the muzzle device. Is it based on a real one, so that I can get oblique view to model it properly?
Indeed, Sunda is one of the best of the best here! Looks elegant and realistically uncomplicated. The seemingly straightforward construction lends itself to 3D modeling too - but now I can tell that those straight lines can be deceiving!
I've got most part done already, now only the details remain. I'm not showing a WIP yet as I want to see if I can work some 'wow factor' into it first. Also the materials will require much care, I am shooting for photorealistic quality here!
If this works well, Sunda may be just the first in the line. I am already sharpening my teeth for Stingray, Aardwolf, Alopex and Greyhounds. I'm no good when it comes to designing weapons - but if I was successful, this wouldn't end up being much different from you: lots of bullpups and AK derivatives. So, why reinvent the wheel then? I can always add little personal touch in 3D, as naturally there will be areas and aspects not covered in side view. Of course, the credit for basic design is rightfully yours.

You'll learn the terms real quick when used rather often there are folding charging handles available for the SCAR platform as well, so the Vector isn't the only one. The charging handle on the other side would move along when charged, but they shouldn't move when firing the weapon.
The bolt release catch is located behind the ejection port. (indeed, that window with the small triangles on the visible part of the bolt is the ejection port)
The bolt release catch would be that vertical grey rectangle thingy just in front of the stock pad.
The flash hider is based on the Mk.12 SPR's flash hider, as seen here. www.kingarms.com/productimagesβ¦
Mine's just got a ring around it is all.
I thank you for the compliment about the Sunda. I still remember how it kept looking off for about 70% of the time and progress, and all of a sudden I changed a couple of things around, and it all made sense. It still is one of my personal favourites.
I honestly can't wait to see the finished product, my friend! I've sneaked around through your gallery, and I was not disappointed! Be sure to shoot me a message when finished! I can't wait for others in line as well! Would you like to do the Sidewinder as well?

I turned out to be more busy this week than expected. But today I force-made some time for it, and here it is!
fav.me/d8znz80
It's done in about 80%. Few geometrical details are missing. Surface materials are my main concern at this stage. They're quite advanced already but will need adjustments for sure. I'm not entirely content with the random weathering effects too.
Too much self-doubt?... Well, I saw peterku 's works and now I'll never be satisfied.
Anyway, any remarks are welcome. If anything should be different, don't hesitate to tell me. Shouldn't I make the weapon a little wider?
Obviously I re-used my old ammo clip from MSBS. And I wonder how the flip-up sights should exactly look like, side view doesn't tell me much...
Time constraints are "to be or not to be" of the whole project, but if Xaotherion Industries War Dept. gets around to making the whole line of guns, squeezing Sidewinder in there should be no problem! I had a look at it, and seems like the scope will be more difficult to model than the gun itself.
I can already tell that in such case, the Space Branch products are gonna be licensed as well.

I left you some feedback on the image itself. Weird question perhaps, but how possible is it to print this using a 3D printer?
π: 0 β©: 1
xaotherion In reply to Shockwave9001 [2015-07-03 21:23:45 +0000 UTC]
Not a weird question at all. I'd love to try it myself. But such machines are pretty much above the pay grade around here, so I have exactly zero practical experience with them.
I've done some reading on this topic earlier, being super curious about it anyway. So it should be possible to get the model done, but it would take some specific adjustments. Merging/splitting of the parts, or somesuch... The exact kind of these I can't tell, not having a way to experiment in practice.

I was expecting an answer like that, actually. Quite a shame, it would be so incredibly amazing to even hold one of my own rifles.
Nevertheless, I was blown out of my chair seeing your work of it already I still can't believe it entirely, haha!

There's no reason why I couldn't send you the file when it's finished. Maybe you can find someone who is able to fix it properly for printing.
I am totally decided to save up for a decent quality printer - once I'm able to do so (I'm not gonna buy cheapest one around only to watch as it keeps malfunctioning).
Then, I would devise a way to cut the model in parts - so they can be printed and assembled into live-size thing. Would most likely consume a good couple of filament spools, but heck, I'd totally do it!

Well, I don't know too much about firearms, I know some guns by looking at them, and comparing them to yours or shockwave's wasn't a very rational decision, and I recognize that. And the fact that I am not extensively educated in firearms doesn't mean I'm an idiot. It may to you, but to anyone else, probably not.
