A species in my fantasy world, Popinjays are bird creatures that live on one large island called Fothos. Their species is very fluid and excepting. All chicks regardless of sex are called by They/Them pronouns until they fully get their adult plumage, where they are allowed to pick their own pronouns for themself. The pronouns they chose are shown in feather dye on their face and shoulders(his red-pink swirls). Red-pink=He/Him, Purple-Blue=They/Them, Teal-Green=She/Her, Yellow-Orange=Other/Ask Them. Most members of this species are non-monogamous and everyone is just very open in general, freeing everyone for any kind of relationship with one another.

Ruaa himself is the chieftain's son, 4th of 6. He feels isolated considering his species' feelings on relationships. He's AroAce and those around him don't understand him not wanting any kind of relationship. He leaves home with his 2 friends and a human stranger to explore the world.
