Description
For my Intro to Design 2 class (COA 1012) I made this chipboard study model of my design for a resting place along a path on campus.I called it AldΓ«a, Quenya (Elvish) for "avenue of trees" since it is intended to have ivy growing over it that filter the light at the top and give the effect of walking under a tree canopy. The finished structure would be made of tubular aluminum bars with a clear (plexiglas/plastic/acrylic- materials analysis wasn't part of the exercise) canopy that allows light to come in and air to flow freely yet shelters people from the rain. The open side faces the street, while the mesh on the other side allows for dense ivy growth. The top three shots show it as I first modeled it, with the roof going to slightly over twelve feet. I wanted the space to feel more "cozy," so to speak, so I made a false floor for the model to show the space as would actually appear- just over 9 feet at the peak.
This is actually just the basic module of the structure- it ends up covering a triangular region. The presentation model may be seen here: [link] and here: [link]
I may post the plan/section/elevation later.
I'm actually going into Industrial Design, but I rather enjoyed this excercise, and worked my tail off on it. My instructor still didn't think it was worth an A, but that's another issue...
