Dazed, violet eyes opened to a porcelain ceiling. The dull beeping from nearby grated on her nerves. It crept into her ears, forced itself into her head. She squeezed her eyes shut, silently begging for the grating noise to stop. Just stop tormenting her like this. Maybe she was just overwhelmed, but the beeping seemed to only get louder to her. It was so, so painful.

Just when it seemed like it was at its most torturous, a crash. Her eyes flew open in alarm to see the heart monitor on the floor, a crack across its screen. Her brows furrowed. Confusion and daze swirled within her head. It wasn’t a good combination to have.

“Your powers are already activating?” A giggle. She wasn’t quite sure if the voice was masculine or feminine. It sounded like neither, or perhaps both? “I’m shocked, to be frank. Usually, it takes days for those I’m contracted to have their powers activate.”

Her gaze rose. Peered around her, searching for the source of that odd voice. It sounded similar to the one she’d heard in her dream. As she looked for the source of the voice, her gaze ran over light pink walls, the white bed underneath her, the door at the end of the room, and the door beside her bed. A hospital room, hm? That’s right, she had fallen into a coma so of course she would be taken to the hospital.

After some searching, she finally found the source of the voice. There was a faint, transparent figure at the foot of her bed. A constantly shifting figure. One that didn’t settle on one form for long. They were smiling at her… But she couldn’t tell if it was a good smile or a bad one.

Now that she’d found them… She forced her weary body up and glared at the IV’s in her skin. And there was a countless number of other tubes in her body, with a wide variety of functions. Immediately, her hands flew to one such IV. She was shocked to find transparent hands suddenly pressing down on her own. Even though his body was transparent, it appears it still had substance. What a contradiction.

“Hold on, girl. I know you’re hell bent on revenge…” They paused, something of a cheeky grin crossing their face. “But you can’t take your revenge if you’re so exhausted. You’ve been out for months. Why not take it easy for now?”

She took a moment to stare at them, resisting the urge to glare. Because, though she didn’t exactly know them, they were merely exhibiting their worry. Right? Even so… She sucked in a sharp breath. “I can’t. If she finds out that I’m awake, she’ll likely come back and do it again. And anyway, I want to at least get the jump on her.” Or she might actually kill her this time.

The wicked being at her side considered her for a moment before smiling. “Once you find her, what do you plan on doing?”

She froze. The look on their face was infuriating. As though they KNEW her already. But they were right… What did she plan on doing? Kill her? Even though that wicked woman had nearly been indirectly involved with her death, she wasn’t sure she could actually go through with killing her.

“You are right though,” the contradictory being went on. Pacing their way to the window, they threw it open and sat on the windows ledge. They grinned and rested their arm on their knee. “Once she finds out that you’re awake and healthy. She’ll likely do the same thing, or worst.” They must have seen her expression fall, because the grin abruptly fell. Tilting their head, they considered her. “Once you get stronger though, there’s likely something you can do without being forced to kill anyone.”

She bit her lip and curled her fingers into her sheets. Their words were understandable but she shook her head. “I can’t just wait. You must know that. Remember, what you said? That if she finds out I’m awake and healthy, she’ll come back for me.” A surge of hopelessness rose within her. What could she possibly do? That woman likely wasn’t going to hurt her father simply because she wanted to date him, so she had that going for her. But if she were to go see her father…

The being giggled. She looked up at them, frowning deeply. What could possibly be so funny?

They grinned at her. Hopping off the window’s edge, they swayed towards her. “Then we go into hiding.” Bending down next to her, he cheerfully waved a hand across her body and various tubes vanished in the blink of an eye. She cocked her head, staring in alarm at her body which had an abrupt lack of needles. She supposed that she really shouldn’t be so shocked, considering what had happened so far.

Turning her attention away from this latest abnormality, she glanced up at the being. “How? I don’t have the money to get a place, much less a hotel room. And I don’t know how to live on the streets. And…” She paused, staring hard at the entity’s face. From their grin, she wasn’t thinking in the right direction.

Instead of answering her right away, the mysterious entity spun to the window. A mysterious energy flared to life around their body. Filling the room itself, she found the back of her neck prickle. It was a feeling that left her wary yet energized. She rubbed her goosebumped arms, watching them with a frown. What was he doing? The entity held a hand out towards the window and the surrounding energy began to spin in the center of the open space, pin wheeling faster and faster.

More and more energy began to fill that open space. Taking it over and forming a picture. Until she no longer saw the outside, but a completely different place altogether. She would have studied that place in increasing detail, but right then, her surroundings blurred. Light headed, she cupped her hands over her head. Everything swayed and she couldn’t stop from tilting.

“I guess I overdid it, huh?” Suddenly, arms grabbed her.

She could no longer move, but she suddenly didn’t care. The arms around her were so very warm, and so very there. Even though their body was transparent. With her cheek against their chest, she was certain that she could hear a heartbeat. It calmed her somewhat. Drowsy beyond belief, she allowed her eyes to close. Waited for her consciousness to fade.
