Description So I manage to kick my art block, and I suppose it was inevitable that the result is another Fenris picture. Damn him for having such a compelling backstory!!

Anyway, I've been wanting to do this for a while... it's basically what I pictured when his past was explained in Act 3. Perhaps it's my own redhead bias (because I am one) but after seeing what Varania looked like, the image of Leto as a redhead just stuck. I had originally planned the background to look more like an amphitheater, but Danarius strikes me as the kind of fellow who prefers watching his slaves duel (preferably, I imagine, to the death) in the comfort of his own home.

And as usual, I don't own Dragon Age. It owns me.

EDIT: Nearly forgot... The travertine texture you see on the walls came from !!

It wasn't until a recent playthrough that I let Varania live and found out that Fenris actually FOUGHT for his markings, so stumbling upon this piece of art really amazed me!

Anywho, I am a huge fan of Ginger Leto as you've portrayed him here. I'm also a fan of your style, as well.

All in all, great piece of work. It's obvious you've put a lot of love into this one.

I managed not to kill Varania during my first game, and after hearing that story it made it kind of hard to kill her afterwards in other games... It's all just so sad!!!

Also~ I hadn't considered his being a redhead before the lyrium ritual (because his brows are so dark), but I have to say I like it so much I'm considering retconning mentions of his coloring in my fanfic. I mean, it would make sense considering his sister's coloring, etc. Anyways, again kudos I love this picture

Well, I wouldn't mind hearing your arguments because the subject of coloring etc interests me, but I'd have to say this picture is a really good argument in the case of redhead Fenris! I can't even visualize dark-haired anymore, it just doesn't seem natural. You have converted me :3

Anyways, again kudos! I love your DA2 (and specifically Fenris) art, you have such a beautiful style!

...Okay. You asked for it. I have no problem with people saying they simply can't picture Fenris as a redhead, that's just a matter of taste, but the eyebrow argument just doesn't make sense to me, and almost everyone who has commented on this piece has brought it up. He's a fictional character and part of an imaginary race in a made-up magical world where dragons run around, and it's suddenly "unrealistic" that he might have had eyebrows that are darker than his hair? Even that doesn't get my goat so much as some people's attitudes on the matter. Saying flat out that "Fenris can't have had red hair because of his eyebrows" just strikes me as seriously arrogant. Part of what makes Dragon Age so fun is the creativity it inspires. Undermining that in another artist's work because of your own preconceptions is nothing short of seriously messed up. Now, if David Gaider walked up to me and told me "No, Maoileoin, actually Fenris had purple dreadlocks before the ritual", I would amend my take on the character to fit that. Otherwise, I'm sticking with what I think works, which is Fenris having red hair like Varania. (As a side note, I'm not aiming this rant at you or anyone specific on dA, because you've been nothing but nice ... These are just some of my thoughts on the matter based on some of my experiences with this piece) End of rant! Yay Fenris!

I love this. The expression is fantastic, the pose is fantastic, everything- LOVE. I was inspired by his backstory just as you were, but since I'm a terrible artist, I writing it as a story instead. Thank you for the fantastic picture inspiration!

I know, right? I actually want to know more about Fenris' story, before he met Hawke. Like what they did for Leliana. They created a DLC for her, mabye they will creat a DLC for Fenris.

Thanks so much!! I regretted the angle and perspective as soon as I implemented it because it was so hard. I think it paid off, but there was a lot of cursing in the meantime.

I normally don't put this much effort into backgrounds, but for this I decided to bite the bullet and paint it. I used a lot of references for the architecture, especially the gate and the columns, and for the floor I added a texture from a picture of my driveway. There is a lot of abuse of the transform tool going on here. I don't understand how some people can do backgrounds so quickly and make them look so easy!!!
