Fantastic work and draw, a very good work and rendering

How are you lighting the scenes? Are you using portal lights? Im kind of having an issue when applying a dark shader on the walls and floor...my image gets very dark..not even the exposure node helps me....

Siamon89 In reply to THExDUKE [2011-03-17 13:47:26 +0000 UTC]

You should always enable GI (global illumination) when rendering. Especially in dark scenes.

THExDUKE In reply to Siamon89 [2011-03-17 13:53:34 +0000 UTC]

Hmm..so you are shooting photons? From outside??....Ill give it a try..I was only using FG and Portal Lights and it ws pitch black. Thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Siamon89 In reply to THExDUKE [2011-03-17 16:30:45 +0000 UTC]

I just create a daylight system with no skylight [mental ray] and turn on GI and FG because most of my scenes are based on reflective illumination [light reflecting on all reflective walls, ceilings etc so that the atmosphere is bright enough.]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

THExDUKE In reply to Siamon89 [2011-03-17 16:40:44 +0000 UTC]

Is a daylightsystem a physical sun and sky and delete the sky? Because I used (only) a directional light plus area lights connected with portal lights plus exposure photographic.
If you use GI where do you get your photons then? Sorry for bothering you but im just noasy.

Siamon89 In reply to THExDUKE [2011-03-17 17:58:38 +0000 UTC]

If it is a day scene, you should always create a daylight system [on mentalray] or other daylighting systems such as v-ray sun or else renderer daylight. If it is a day scene, you shouldn't get your sun from directional lights (=. GI photons comes from the daylight system.

Nevermind...guess I have figured it out....the physical sky was the missing link! Thank you

I love how sleek and shiny this is. It looks very well-cared-for, like somebody wants to keep it clean and sterile, not just functional. It looks like someplace a really great sci-fi story should take place.

Thanks for noticing that, it really is a special place, in which taking care and maintanence is very important.

People often don't realize how extremely clean labs are. They tend to imagine "mad scientist" stuff. Really, a serious mad scientists would be impeccably clean.

BTW do you mind if I write a short or something about this piece?

Siamon89 In reply to dedicatedfollower467 [2010-11-09 15:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Sure, what will it be?

dedicatedfollower467 In reply to Siamon89 [2010-11-10 03:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Idk... the lab itself is so beautiful I was wondering about a mad science experiment gone wrong and accidentally giving the building/room sentience.

That. Is. Amazing.

This has given me loads of inspiration for a new project of my own. It definitely deserves a DD.

Can I ask how long it took to render?

I love the lighting and the feeling of wanting to see more of the room. Like if I turned the image I could see a whole lot more of the room. The detail is fantastic.

Siamon89 In reply to the-dead-romantic [2010-11-08 10:14:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, I'm glad if it inspired you (=.

This render was longer than 2-3 hours, because of the number of lights.

the-dead-romantic In reply to Siamon89 [2010-11-10 00:07:28 +0000 UTC]

2-3 hours isnt too bad... what specs does your machine have?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Siamon89 In reply to the-dead-romantic [2010-11-10 00:34:48 +0000 UTC]

It's i7 920 @ 4.2ghz, Radeon HD4850 and 6 gigs of RAM. The main factor is the CPU I think, considering render times...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

the-dead-romantic In reply to Siamon89 [2010-11-11 00:11:30 +0000 UTC]

not bad... im guessing that if i was to do the same, it would take up to 12 hours... my computer isnt all that great...i cant remember what my cpu is though, and i cant check it right now (im not at home at th moment)

i agree with you though, considering render times, and the CPU, thats probably it
