Description
"It was not your fault...You did your best. Come, let us reconcile, my love."
--------------
In stark contrast to their aggressive territorial behaviour, the Necropolis Hive's method of gathering love seems almost harmless. They don't trap ponies, they don't take husks for their hive and they hardly use hypnosis on their victims. Nevertheless their methods are actually very harmful to ponies. Beside draining victims of their love (and thus life energy), ponies in question usually become obsessed with the past; they spend more time around their perceived dead loved ones than living ones.

(Before someone asks, yes, I'll make pictures for Myxine and Miasma too.)

How does the Nekropolis Hive get the memories of the dead pony? (or any hive, per chance?)

But seriously I want to leave that up to everyone's imagination. Maybe they can read minds, maybe they can actually talk to ghosts...maybe they're just high as shit.

Alright I have a question: If Necropolis changelings don't take husks, then what happens to a pony when they get all the love sucked out of them by a Necropolis changeling?

They try not to let it go that far, but when it happens, they just kill the pony and hide away the body.

Lately I've thinking that maybe the dead loved one borrows the Changeling's body to talk to their living retaliative. But what happens is the Changeling while this happens feeds off of the love of the pony being directed at the dead loved one. Kind of like paying a phone bill to a phone company. Where the Changeling acts like the phone company collecting the rates for this service. When the pony becomes a husk it means the pony has over drawn on their phone bill with the phone company.Β

I never understood how love equaled 'life energy' with changelings. Love is an emotion, not something that pumps through your veins and keeps you alive.
Would someone please explain how people made this 'love = life' connection to me? Because it certainly evades my grasp.

Siansaar In reply to ChocolateRa [2014-02-06 15:54:01 +0000 UTC]
didn't think much about it, it just seemed to fit. i think...that if you love someone, you're willing to give mental and bodily energy to keep that person happy. but if someone just takes and takes, you exhaust yourself.
think about it like this. if you run to the store five minutes before closing to get your lover her/his favourite chocolate, arrive just in time and then get back to give it to them...and if they say "thank you so much" and hug you, you feel it was worth it and are happy. but if they're just like "oh. thanks, i guess. but couldn't you have checked for milk too?" it just gets you down and the depression takes your energy out of you.
i can't really explain it, but if you've ever met someone who just takes and takes and never returns any gratitude or anything, you know what it feels like.
(and if that doesn't do it, you could just say something like "your love for life keeps you alive" )

Part of me is glad there's no good explanations for this, that way I can keep believing love is infinite and you can just love a changeling forever, haha.

The different Changling Hives that Siansaar created. One of them doesn't involve actively (or mainly noticeable) harassment of ponies. The particular changling hive/queen, uses their powers to change into lost loved ones to drain the love from their families who miss them. So like in this piece, where the guard is happy to see their love again. That loved one, is a changling.

so dangerous only by the weakness of the ponies than intention........... such strange creatures the changelings of the necropolis.
though that might have been before Chrysalis's foolish actions, when changelings were far more fmailair as myth than actual threat. now those who see their dead loved ones may realize that this is not a spirit of their long departed. if they realize this, realize what they view upon, the rage that may come from it may lead to a dead changeling. and changelings have never exactly shown to be more powerful than ponies.
i would think that chrysali's actions brougth great harm upon her own species. suddenly ponies are many times more cautious, suddenly they are not so easily fooed. and they would be actively hunted.
π: 0 β©: 1
Siansaar In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-01-06 20:22:27 +0000 UTC]
hmm...the thing is that most ponies assume that chrysalis' was the only hive though.
π: 0 β©: 1
Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-01-06 20:29:15 +0000 UTC]
true. but that would not prevent them from thinking that a dead loved one suddenly appearing is a changeling. whether aware of other hives or only knowing of chrysalis, they would probably suspect a changeling posing as a loved one.
π: 0 β©: 1
Siansaar In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-01-06 21:48:47 +0000 UTC]
ehh, i wouldn't count on it. there's a lot more things out there in equestria that we don't know about, so maybe there are actual ghost apparitions too. it would be like blaming cold weather on changelings because you don't know about wendigos.
and like i said, if they think only chrysalis' hive exists, they also only think changelings can turn into currently living ponies.

Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-01-06 22:30:09 +0000 UTC]
.........? where would they get that logic from? more than likely Celestia would have been smart enough to include the idea that they could imitate the form of any pony they have seen, living or otherwise. if only for the sake of reasonable caution.
there is a rather major difference. weather and a species that can take the form of your loved ones is pretty much different things. even if ghosts existed, paranoia would probably drive a pony to, more often than not, flee for their lives or tackle the image of their loved one. and hopefully if it is a specter of their loved one for real, they will forgive their behavior........ maybe.
.....if you thinkabout it, being only aware of the chrysalis hive would mean that there would be inevitable harm to the others..... that would any chagneligns exposed, which is more likely as paranoia starts to build up, they would be considered part of chrysalis's hive and then captured or killed.......... this would eventually lead ot the discovery of other hives though, as the ponies would realize the pcatives or corpses all ahve very different characteristics to chrysalis's drones.
besides, there is a very intersting narrative potential for the idea of chrysalis accidentally hurting her own kind like that. how would the other queens react to this treachery by proxy? could they somehow adapt to a world where changelings are known and truly hated like never before, where a pony will always blame a changeling before they blame anything else? or would they be pushed to desperation, and perhaps become driven by anger towards chrysalis and her drones for causing this whole mess?

Having a base (or hive in this case) under a huge graveyard has it's perks. But perhaps one of the biggest downsides would be that it would only take a single Necromancer of sufficient power to... well... you get the idea.

well apart from the fact that they usually pick someone who's likely not over it yet (either recently separated or someone with strong feelings of guilt), this is where they'd apply a little hypnosis to coax the person into staying with them some more. sometimes it's also as simple as reminding them of the good times they had together in life and keeping them there by retelling "past" experiences or having that person recount them himself. usually such memories also trigger an increase in love cause they remember how good they felt at the time.
