But see? It's the bump displacement that's the tricky part. A texture is tricky itself, but when you add the displacement, it's almost a fourth dimension, because it's a background dimension. It's what makes painted on turn into raised texture.

This has a bump displacement based on the image - with smooth edges. The displacement 'mat' has a lot of settings in Blender - as I choose a box/wall, I didn't go too radical with those settings.

On your shadow, it doesn't show up as having any displacement. Curious...

The depth is not enough to create a 'large displacement' it's only 2 pixels depth overall on the walls...

In Blender the 'lights' are a simple object - in this one set as 'sun', from there it's a matter of placing it to the the desired amount of shadowing...
