Age 19 in 1358 DR (During Gateway To the Savage Frontier and Treasures Of the Savage Frontier)
Born 17 Mirtul, 1339 DR
Year of the Weeping Moon
Born under the Sign of the Stone
and with New Selûne under the sign of the Eagle
Those born under the sign of the Stone are complex, tenacious and fearless. Proud and independent, they have great strength of character and rarely compromise. They thrive on challenge and have an innate belief in their own destiny.
Those with Selûne under the sign of the Eagle are determined, resilient and ambitious. Good organizers, leaders and strategists, they are not deterred by setbacks, believing hard work, patience and persistence will triumph. They are loyal but reserved in showing affection.
Devans was born in the Year of the Weeping Moon, 1339 DR in the city known as Silverymoon, making him two years older than Jagaerda, and five years younger than Siulajia. His mother was a retired rogue of Turmish descent, and his father, who was also of Turmish descent, was a respected member of a mercenary organization called the Moonlight Men. Four years after Devans' birth, in the Year of the Boot, 1343 DR, an orc horde attacked Silverymoon and Everlund, starting a war that is known in Forgotten Realms history as the Battle of Turnstone Pass. The Moonlight Men, including Devans' father, stood in opposition to the orc hordes and defended Silverymoon and Everlund valiantly, killing over 4,000 orcs at Turnstone Pass, but most of The Moonlight Men were killed during the war too, including Devans' father, which devastated him and his mother. Though Devans' father was lauded a hero along with all the other brave mercenaries that died during the Battle of Turnstone Pass, it did not dull the pain of losing a beloved family member.
As the years passed, Devans grew up learning how to be a fighter, tirelessly training not only his body, but also his mind thanks to his mother, and his mother also taught him how to be persuasive, to deceive gullible people and monsters when necessary. He learned very well from his mother, and she gave him the nickname "The Devil" because tricking and manipulating people is what devils do, but unlike true devils, Devan has the heart of an angel and only deceives and manipulates when necessary, not for personal gain, and even though he is a fighter, he thinks like a rogue, knowing that not all conflicts can be solved swords swinging. At the age of 16, Devans went out on his own for the first time in his life, taking mercenary jobs wherever he could. In the Summer of 1357 DR, Devans was at a small hamlet in northwest Faerun called Longsaddle, arriving there with the job of escorting a man with a small caravan carrying boxes to a client in the griffonposts at the northwestern corner of Longsaddle. However, things turned bad when a mated couple of griffons attacked the caravan. Devans eventually learned that the man who hired him to escort him to Longsaddle had stolen a batch of griffon eggs, and the parents of those eggs are obviously angry that their young had been kidnapped. Angered at being lied to, Devans tried to offer the eggs back to their parents, but the man who hired him tried to stop him, claiming that griffon eggs are very valuable, as people who train them to be mounts pay 2,000 gold pieces for one griffon egg. Devans didn't care about the money, he didn't like the idea of stealing young animals away from their parents, but during the confusion, the man that hired Devans accidentally destroyed all but one of the griffon eggs, enraging the mated couple. The man was killed, and some griffon trainers involved in the fight were able to kill the male griffon, but the female griffon proved to be a much tougher fight, wounding several griffon tamers and almost wounding Devans. When the fight made its way to Saddle Pond, Devans met a wizard named Malchor Harpell, who gave him a magical longsword. Devans didn't know why this wizard felt the need to give him a better weapon, but Devans used the magical longsword to kill the female griffon, becoming a hero in Longsaddle. A year later, sometime in the Summer of 1358 during the Time of Troubles and Devans' 19th birthday, he and a couple other hired mercenaries, a male half-elf cleric named Fandes Mayberry, and a male elf mage named Mastus Riverwalker were called to the dwarven fortress called Citadel Adbar. Their job was to escort a caravan from Citadel Adbar to Yartar. Devans and the other two mercenaries agreed to do the job, and that is where Devans' adventure during Gateway to the Savage Frontier begins.
When the caravan Devans, Fandes and Mastus were escorting reached Yartar, they went to a tavern where they enjoyed a good feast, but little did they know that something was slipped into their food and drinks and they pass out. While they were sleeping, someone stole all their money and prized possessions, including Devans' magical lonsword that he used to kill a griffon at Longsaddle. When Devans, Fandes and Mastus woke up, they found everything they had owned is gone. Luckily, Devans hid some money under the pillow of his hotel bed in case the unexpected happened. After buying new weapons, Devans, Fandes and Mastus came across a small man named Krevish being harassed by a group of thieves. They rescue him, and as an act of gratitude, Krevish offered them to work for the Kraken Society for more money. After navigating through the streets, the party and Krevish arrived outside a complex. Krevish pushed a hidden panel in the wall, which swung open a hidden door. The party made their way through the dark corridor and reached a heavy wooden door. After using a specific sequence of knocks, the door was opened by a raging man. The man turned out to be the captain of the Kraken Society, and Krevish explained that his life had been saved by the three adventurers. The captain gave Devans, Fandes and Mastus a chance to earn some gold and respect, by taking care of a cleric of Bane at Nesme. After Devans and his small group agreed to take the quest, Krevish asked to accompany the party, to which Fandes and Mastus agreed, overruling Devans' objection (Devans did not want to hear Krevish's long-winded talking on a daily basis).
But, once they reach Nesme and attack the cleric of Bane, Devans, Fandes, Mastus and Krevish discover that the evil priest was the only individual standing in the way of the conquest being conducted by the Zhentarim. Later the party rescues the mage Amelior Amanitas from Everlund, an eccentric and somewhat absent-minded wizard who explains how to stop the Zhentarim. He explains that he recently discovered that the Zhentarim planned to locate four magical statuettes that, together, could summon or repel monsters. Thus, the Zhentarim aimed to locate all the statuettes and use them to repel forces of creatures towards the east, to clear the harsh Anauroch desert. If the desert could become cleared, the Zhentarim troops could charge from the Moonsea to the Sword Coast, and expand their territory. After returning to Yartar to report their findings to the Kraken Society captain, the party learns that the Kraken Society has allied with the Zhentarim, and they end up being captured and imprisoned in a Kraken base below the city. However, they escape and set off on a journey to collect the four magical statuettes before the Zhentarim agents do.
On their adventure, Devans and his group made more companions, like Muthur the 20 year old male half-orc, Erek the 38 year old male human who looks like a dwarf because of his long beard, Jagaerda the 17 year old female human fighter who was a princess of Gundarlun (Devans liked having her in his party for obvious reasons, but he never made any attempts to romance her because she is a princess, he believed that her father, Olger Redaxe would prefer that Jagaerda have a romantic relationship with a man of royal blood, which Devans is not), and Rishpal, the 28 year old human man who was General Vaalgamon's spy, but decided to turn against him. With Devans' party of eight, they found the statuettes, one was in the Hosttower of the Arcane, they had to befriend a man named Brinshaar, who tried to get the statuette on his own, but ended up getting captured, and help him get the statuette, but in the end, he tried to betray Devans and his party, but he paid the price with his life, and Jagaerda helped the party find the statuette near Gundarlun.
After finding the statuettes and the ring of reversal, the party made their way to Ascore, but Vaalgamon trapped them in an outwardly infinite maze, and began an assault, thus starting the Battle of Ascore. The group managed to reunite the statuettes and the magic ring, attracting hordes of monsters to Ascore, instead of repelling them. Though the party managed to escape, Vaalgamon and his legions were torn apart by the waves of incoming creatures. Later, Devans, Fandes, Mastus, Krevish, Erek, Jagaerda, Muthtur and Rishpal were hailed as the "Heroes of Ascore".
A few weeks after the events of Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Amelior Amanitas magically summons the Heroes of Ascore to eliminate the last remaining Zhentarim soldiers from Lorkh, the dwarven city. Afterwards, the party is given a seemingly simple mission—to protect ambassadors of the " Afterwards, the party is given a seemingly simple mission—to protect ambassadors of the "Lords' Alliance", which holds together the different cities of the frontier. However, the ambassadors are kidnapped; the Zhentarim and its allies, the Kraken Society, and the Hosttower of the Arcane plot to break up the alliance in order to conquer the region; and the party is framed as traitors. Krevish, Erek, Muthtur and Rishpal were killed trying to clear their names with Devans, Fandes, Mastus and Jagaerda, but the remaining for members of the Heroes of Ascore survived to see their name cleared. Along the way, they made new companions: Gauhok, a dwarf fighter with the heart of a paladin, Jarbarkas, a handsome human man who aided the who aided the dwarf resistance in Llorkh, Kiirador, a knight who was a member of the Hammers, the personal bodyguards of the personal bodyguards of the Marchion of Mirabar, Elastul Raurym. Captain Redleg, a male human, was the shipmaster of Ruathym's armada and joined the Heroes of Ascore too. And last but not least, Siluajia, the female human fighter that is five years older than her future husband Devans, and stronger than he is (Her strength points is 18(26), Devans' strength points is 13). During their adventures performing tasks to clear the name of the Heroes of Ascore, Devans and Siulajia developed a romantic relationship, much to Jagaerda's jealousy (Jagaerda has been interested in Devans ever since they defeated General Vaalgamon, but he never noticed her signals).
In the end, the original Heroes of Ascore cleared their names, and they had to go to Ice Peak and retrieve a multifaceted gem from the treasure lair of an white dragon named Thlaaklauthimir, or by his nickname Freezefire. They try to retrieve the gem, but they end up waking and fighting Freezefire, and they succeeded, at the cost of Jabarkas, Mastus and Kiirador's lives. With Freezefire dead, the Heroes of Ascore distributed Freezefire's treasures to all cities in the northern parts of Faerun. Then a year later, Devans and Siulajia got married and had one child. Actually it happened in reverse almost, Siulajia was three months pregnant when she married Devans, and she have birth to a boy who they named Dennis.
