Description
     “The radar must be broken.” Tails said, royally ticked-off.  He loved his inventions; he HATED it when they broke.

     “Don’t worry Tails.  If Knuckles didn’t drop that radar so much, it would work just fine.” Cosmo said.  Tails’s eyes flicked over to her as he smiled his appreciation.  He loved the way the sun reflected off her leaf-like hair…Or was it hair-like leaves?

     They were walking in-between the towering trees of a highly forested planet.  As there had been no sign of the Metarex, Sonic and Knuckles were taking care of the
Blue Typhoon, only fair since they had landed on this planet for 2 reasons; 1, the Typhoon’s radar had detected the 7th Chaos Emerald on this world, and 2, because Sonic and Knuckles most recent fight had damaged the Typhoon.  Tails had fixed it, more-or-less, but they still had to find the Emerald.

     That left Tails, Cosmo, Amy, and Cream and Cheese (Chris was keeping an eye on the spiny hot-heads) to find the Emerald.

     Cosmo stretched and yawned.  It was so relaxing here.  All these trees, all this nature, made her feel incredibly at ease (and having Tails with her helped a little).  She liked the others to, but Sonic and Knuckles were too violent, Cream and Chris were too chatty, and Amy was completely Sonic-obsessed.  She loved spending time with Tails.  He was fun, always ready to listen to another’s problems, and always had something interesting to say, even if she didn’t understand a word he said.

     There was also something else about him.  Something she couldn’t quite place.  No matter what was happening, be it Metarex or Eggman, Tails’s presence alone could calm her down afterward.

     Amy said that she was in love with him.  Amy also said that Tails was in love with her.

     Despite Cosmo’s insistences that she didn’t have feelings for Tails, she really did hope that he was in love with her.

     She was so alone.

     After the other members of her species had been killed by the Metarex, she had been so alone.  She wanted someone in her life.  True, both she and Tails were really young, but he was a real sweetheart.

     Looking forward, she noticed that Tails had switched the radar into his left hand, his right hanging limp at his side.

     Tails glared at the small watch-like device in his hand.  He couldn’t help but feel a little resentful at the stupid little thing.  He refastened the device around his wrist, and sighed.  He started when he felt something grab his hand through the glove.  Looking around, he saw that Cosmo had wrapped her fingers around his.  She blushed as she looked at him.

     “Uh…Cosmo, what are you doing?” he asked.

     “Well, I thought that since we’re alone, we could be a little more friendly.” She replied.  That said, she laid her head against his fuzzy chest, sighing comfortably against the reassuring warmth of his fur.

     Tails and Cosmo walked along.  Neither of them cared about the Emerald anymore.  That was, perhaps, the reason why they were the ones who found it…well, actually Cosmo tripped over it and Tails caught her.  Well, sort of caught her.  He actually tried to catch her, failed, and fell down on top of her.  Either way, it was still a really cute moment, made cuter by the fact that Tails’s tails her patting a high speed beat on the ground.  He tried to stop it, but when a canine is happy, it’s an involuntary gesture.

     Cosmo noticed the tails and felt delighted; this was the perfect moment to try for a kiss.  She wasn’t too sure of herself, but Tails probably wouldn’t be either, so they were on equal ground.

     A rustling in the bushes alerted them to another’s presence.  Instinctively, and much to his chagrin, Tails dove for the red Emerald.  With a flash of silver, a number of robotic metal tentacles shot from behind the nearby trees and grabbed for the Emerald, missed do to Tails, and grabbed Cosmo instead.

     “COSMO!” Tails yelled, whirling around.

     “Tails help me!” Cosmo yelled back as the steel tendrils locked her arms in place.  The Metarex then revealed itself.

     It was, by far, the strangest Metarex he had ever seen.  50 feet long, dragon like with 6 metal tentacles, 3 to each side of its head.

     “Hand over the Emerald!” it roared at him in a warbling metallic voice.

     “Give me Cosmo!” Tails yelled back.

     “Wrong answer!”  The Meta-Serpent took off into the air, with no apparent propulsion system.  Tails shook his head, this was no time to wonder how this Metarex flew, Cosmo was in danger!

     Rotating his tails rapidly, Tails took off into the air, flying after the Meta-Serpent, and silently thankful that it was flying toward the Typhoon.

     Tails looked at the Emerald.  It was helping him fly faster, but it wouldn’t be enough to catch the Metarex.  Tails concentrated on the crimson gem.  Lifting it above his head, Tails yelled out, “CHAOS CONTROL!”

     Tails fell to the floor of the Typhoon’s bridge.

     “Tails, how did you get here?!” Sonic called out in surprise.  Not answering, Tails scooped up the Emeralds and reused Chaos Control.

     He appeared right in front of the Meta-Serpent.  The Emeralds formed a ring around him and began orbiting slowly.

     “Last chance to give her to me!” Tails warned, hoping that he wasn’t bluffing.

     “Tails help me, please!” Cosmo cried.  She felt something brush in a naughty spot.  “Don’t touch me there!” she yelped at the cyborg.

     “Hand over the Emeralds!” it roared, apparently not hearing either of them.

     “Wrong answer!” Tails yelled.  The Chaos Emeralds spun around him, faster-and-faster.  With a bright burst of golden light, Tails changed.  His whiskers and hair stood straight up, his eyes turned blood red, and his golden-yellow fur became a glittering silver-gold.

     The monster opened its jaws widely and multiple lasers shot toward Tails…scratch that, SuperTails!

     Tails held his palm forward and a golden shield appeared around him.  The energy rammed and ricocheted in rapid-fire.  The beast then tried a powerful beam of energy, but SuperTails had disappeared.

     The next moment, all 50 feet of the Metarex split cleanly in 2.

     Cosmo fell towards the ground, until SuperTails caught her.

     “Oh Tails!” she cried, pressing her lips against his.  As they kissed, the Chaos energy returned to the Emeralds, and SuperTails (darn it, NORMAL Tails) used his, well tails, to slow their descent.

     By the time they reached the ground, they had stopped kissing.  Everyone gathered around them to congratulate Tails.  They smiled at each other but didn’t mention the kiss.

     The others didn’t need to know.
