Archimedes is very much like a mirror of Twilight in her youth. He despises companionship and very much prefers the company of a good book filled with knowledge.
His mother took notice of his budding power and enrolled him in Celestia's Academy- unfortunately, the entrance exam didn't end up nearly as well as she had hoped.
He choked up and failed the test.

While Twilight tried to push him to continue his studies and try again in the future, he lashed out- embarrassed by his failures.
From then on, he seldom left the library: hiding away his mother's failure.
