Description This is a Flightless Cormorants, found only in the Galapagos Islands. I just love the blue eyes on otherwise pretty plainly colored birds. This was taken during their courtship ritual, which is quite lovely. The seaweed in the bird's bill is a gift the male offers the female; if interested, she takes the seaweed and they proceed with the dance ritual.

Taken on Fernandina Island, Galapagos Archipelago, Ecuador

Thanks, Cindy! I hadn't seen that, as I'm quite behind in going through my inbox. But I'm in the same group, even submitted a couple of my cormorants recently when they had a "flightless birds" themed week. None got picked for featuring, but maybe they'll get into the bird-of-the-month listing.
