Description
This is Eurytides marcellus, commonly known as the Zebra Swallowtail butterfly. Seeing her was a real treat for me, as I’ve never seen one before, only pictures. Although they are native to where I live, zebra swallowtails tend to stay away from city life in favor of undeveloped, natural areas. I've looked but haven't found anywhere that they hang out. This lady (I know she’s a lady because she was laying eggs) was in the Butterfly House at Cox Arboretum, which exhibits native butterflies found in the arboretum. Hopefully, sometime, I will find one in the wild, but in the meantime, isn’t she a beauty?Taken at Cox Arboretum, Dayton, OH

Thanks, friend; glad you like the photo! Yes, swallowtails are gorgeous, and I'm sorry you don't get to see them flitting around! I planted a butterfly garden this year in order to see more of them, and it's starting to pay off.
I still haven't seen a zebra swallowtail in my garden, but I was very excited to see this one at the exhibit!
