I have not done much with candle light, but it does interest me and plan to do some more at some point, due to its generally low light compared to daylight/studio light and even torch light, it is a little more tricky to work with, but does produce some interesting light and colour.

Beautiful anonymous nude. I love the hint of light on the body, and nice shape created with her legs, in relation to her straight arm.

This is delicious...so graceful and elegant. If it wasn't late and night and my brain was still functioning, I would rave about this for hours. Love it.

It is these days, sadly. Or at least it feels like it. I started working at 9am and finished at 9.30pm. I'm totally knackered!

Thank you.
This is pretty simple lighting wise, just two lights, its the positioning, angle and direction that makes the difference where the light and shadows fall.

Thanks for that, I assume you then meter for the hot parts and work from there? I always like the effect of this type of shot

Yes you meter where the light (in this case) hits the fringes of the figure, that will give you your highlight point, the mid point will be where the light is falling off and the shadow where the light is obscured by body form.

Sorry to bother you again,but is it quite a direction light you use for this instead of a softbox or umbrella - I am thinking of the need to avoid spill

He he yeh I do tend to give snippets of info its an intrigue thing, does it work? ha ha. The lights are softboxes with a honeycomb wafer grid to produce a soft but directional light.
Similar technique used here [link] but the light is fuller facing

Yes, sorry for trying to find out all your secrets , is that the only way to do this or can you use other kit to try and stop the light spilling - it's an intersting subject for me as some of the effects that can be produced with lights are stunning (and Im dying to find various ways of playing with my new kit
)

It is pretty difficult to control light spill from a softbox as the light has a tenancy to wrap itself around a subject to some degree, you can angle the light/position the subject so that only the spill is falling on the subject, its a bit more tricky to get right and you will need to play with angles a bit and make minor adjustments until you get what you want.
Another way is to use the bare light without a light modifier so the light is more direct, the light of course will be more harsh (like direct sunlight) not sure how directional the light is from a bare Elinchrom head.
Yet another way, you could make some sort of directional attachment for your soft box, this can be pretty simple using a large cardboard box/corrugated card and cut slats in it and turn them so they look like Venetian blinds. Or if you have Venetian or vertical blinds that can be set up away from a window, position them infront of the softbox and fire the light through them, you have to be careful though not to have them angled, or you will get light and dark bars like you would see in a room with sun shining trough blinds.
The results most likely wont be as good as a gridded softbox, but will be about £300 cheaper.
