Description Setting the look and feel of a seedy red light district in an animation project.

These paintings are based on photographs which are pimped out retro-futuristic. This is one of the first backgrounds I did for the project.

Seriously? Not ONE favorite? What's become of the community.
Shame on them, the crap on the front page is MILES behind this.

I'm going to submit a one or two of your pieces for features in daily deviations, I see no reason why they shouldn't be immediately accepted, good luck.

Oh, thanks! You're a champ. Even if they don't get featured I appreciate the gesture.

When you do this, is it your photography or stock photos? I've been really interested in utilizing methods like this to speed up certain aspects of development. Keep up the good work sir!

Cheers!

There's a photographer on the project who provides all the on-site photos. They're taken around Sydney, Melbourne and some filler ones in Perth. I don't get to choose the shots though, the director sends what suits. A lot of the photos are really average quality, but they're relit and graded so heavily that it's fine for the animation.

If these were for a realistic feature I'd be struggling, the quality of a matte painting is hugely dependent on your photographs.

You could use stock images if you just wanna practise, but people on the internet tend to notice these things. Someone, somewhere would probably pick it out. Better off taking your own photo.
