Description So... This piece has taken me absolutely ages to actually complete...
Though at first I expected it to be not all that difficult, I found as time went by that I simply wanted to do more and more with it before sending it on. I told my friends and fans that big things were in the works this year, and here is the first of my BIG projects!

Drawn using super fine pigment ink fine liner pen on A4 card, and coloured with over 130 layers in photoshop.
took over 80 hours, wasn't counting but has been in the works for months!

for the upcoming summer release of without.directive's latest album,
Novus Ordo Seclorum.
follow the link to check out the album preview! it looks AWESOME

oh absolutely, he asked me this year if he could remix one of my little guitar melodies too,
he's a cool guy. hope you have a great day my friend!

Wonderful work! I really appreciate the sentiment behind the piece and find myself being drawn back to the child on the man’s shoulders. I may be way off but I see them as a representation of our future and the responsibility we have to our children to make sure they remain curious and objective to the world around them. I love the texture of the clouds; it really balances out the image and gives them a kind of toxic vibe which works nicely with the setting.

thank you! i also felt the child on the guys shoulders was a real focal point.
i think possibly you are walking the right path with your sumisation -
you would have to ask the musician who requested the piece, though his music speaks for itself:

here is one of my fave tracks from the album this pic was for...

almost.... I managed to free up some RAM space once it wasn't an "in-working" file anymore, that's for sure. my whole pc slowed down while running this on photoshop toward the end.. couldn't run the internet while drawing or anything.
I think perhaps im starting to learn, as you told me last year, that the effort one puts in reflects what you get back out...
I think for years I looked down on digitisation simply because I grew up without a computer, and always thought of art in terms of the masters; Michelangelo, Rembrandt, turner and da Vinci...
while most people on DA seem to find people like yoshikazu yasuhiko, and boris Vallejo, to be the "grand masters" of art.
its a shame but im sticking to my guns. im determined not to just reproduce modern conceptual styles, but rather to show honesty through study of light and shade, form and function, just like the true masters of the renaissance.
surely, its just a matter of time...

The thing is to stay true to yourself. It always helps to practice and refine skills whether digitally or traditionally....sooner or later you will get the recognition you deserve

im trying to get both in order... but I would much rather become known for traditional rather than digital works...
sooner or later they will take notice. I will just keep doing what I do. very pleased that my work comes up on google if you search "surreal landscape" within the first few pages... that's international recognition, which means more to me than popular recognition.... but would be nice to be able to feed my family with my works one day
hope you are doing well, and the world is spinning pleasantly for you

As with most things these days it is all about promotion....and thats the bit I am particularly bad at...I am not a salesperson and I don't do 'hey look at how good I am'. I have no idea where to start when it comes to waffle....and its even harder if you work on instinct......how the hell do I know why I did something, I just did and it worked!! I think I need a spin doctor

I find the same difficulties.... I try to just do my best and hope my art speaks for itself, but im sure I could have had all kinds of exhibitions and stuff by now if I had an agent. what a world we live in.... where we need money to survive.... but to get money we must toil.... while spending money for the toil to work properly.... to earn money...to spend on further toiling.... what an effing joke.
im sure somewhere in the universe there is a great creature just laughing it's backside off at the human race and his tiny endeavours here on earth
have you any friends in the industry that could help you out? maybe give you a little extra "word of mouth" advertisement?

I have completely changed tack. My employment was in photography, graphics and web design rather than fine art, although I have always created and painted for myself, friends and family over the years....I don't have any contacts in the art field...unless you count dA

same here. the constant needing of secretive handshakes and smoking cigars in rooms with fat gents in suits is too much for me....
by hook or by crook, I will be noticed by sheer dint of will. I cant abide the false meritocracy of our modern society.
perhaps one day we will be able to help each other out.... after all, DA must have some uses, other than to ogle naked young ladies and pictures of ponies - sometimes posing in identical ways *shiver*

hopefully it will be on sale online before the end of the year too- its one of those "dealing with a friend" kind of things in which no-one seems to lose. his music in itself is inspiring and wondrous; I have been a fan for quite a while. the fact he loves what I do too just puts the cherry on top of the whole thing

Very impressive. I am no artist, but I can guess at the intricacies behind this work, not to mention the plot/story/background behind it - this is no simple, shallow visual work. Love it.

thank you so much! this piece is indeed close to home, for many of us...
did you follow the link to check out the album preview this is for?
if not I would suggest it mightily! without.directive is going to be huge one day. he blends classical sounding instruments like violin, and piano, with contemporary ones like electric guitar, and dubstep sequences.
of course, the message behind his music is similar to what he asked me to create for his album cover

Sorry for the terribly late reply! I don't come on DA that much.

Anyway, yeah I checked out the album preview. Frankly speaking, I'm more into jazz and smoother music, so yeah can't really appreciate the music all that much. Still, I must say the album seems to be a perfect match for the art. Brilliant job, excellent combination.

no worries on the late reply, im famed by now for taking ages to be able to answer the sheer wall of mail I face these days.
I can understand your sentiments, I enjoy many types of music, and though I really vibe with this sort of orchestral dubstep-ish kind of stuff, I also go in for Ludovico Einaudi, who is an amazing pianist, and regularly listen to orchestral power music like 2 steps from hell.
im currently working on art for another band, something even more hard-core,

a bit more extreme than even I may like - but I must go where the work is, and its giving me an interesting chance to draw monsters again.... something I haven't done in years.
thanks again my friend! your feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Plugged into the Babylonian Matrix, directly fed into the system. Psycho-soma, and only the truth will disconnect you and make you free. But those connections are not physical, no, not even intellectual but they are spiritual. Only the sword of the Spirit can sever them!

Nice work and well worth all the effort you put into it.

Weird thing is, they are actually telling you what they are doing. If you google European Parliament Building, Strasbourg, you will actually see this painting in the flesh. (or rather concrete/glass/steel)

you are so right!
people joyfully cheer the false idols on, and by their own blood do the common man build and indeed burn his bridges.
when I first heard this idea from the musician this is for, I felt immediately that this was something I could throw myself into wholly. it was totally worth the time and effort.
hope your having a good day my friend, or as good as can be had in these turbulent times.

Now that's some close to home nightmare, I also notice the Faux News and NBC logo on two of the staked TV screens.

simonpark81 In reply to BorisFedorov [2014-04-06 11:15:18 +0000 UTC]

yeah, mr scholz was pretty specific about what he had in mind... I just tried my best to stay faithful to the truth of the idea, and to portray it in a way that made the whole fit well. I think im definitely getting better at spacing, positioning and distance portrayal in my works these days.
of course, it pays to be in the know about the geo-political situation; though many are gladly oblivious, while others are banging their heads against the wall in frustration. stopping the wars would just be the first of many steps.
and I couldn't not put the fux news in there, what with being asked to put 9/11, simpsons characters and world leaders on there. the mixture just seemed too perfect to miss out on.
I think it was probably a wise idea to blur out the tv screens, so im not too obviously rocking pics of putin, bush, Cameron, merkel and obamarama among images of the wholesale destruction they cause. perhaps when im more well known, and classed as a more heavy-weight contender in the art world, I will draw satirical image of putinutin and Obamarama wrestling.

Nice, and don't worry, like your a pretty smart artist, like I need to do more political art as well, like imagine if  Star Trek Borg helmets where the latest fashions of New York City and Paris, that would make a great sketch

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

simonpark81 In reply to BorisFedorov [2014-05-06 20:07:17 +0000 UTC]

now that is something I would love to see - borg fashion!
I was thinking of doing some more socio-political stuff in future, I really enjoyed doing this one, and have one im working on now involving the Disney princesses and their "bastardization" process of girl's minds- but mostly I been working on cave pics with HUGE crystals, a personal project -
but your right, images of iconic places and strange twists added would be a brilliant political statement.

Understand, like Disney was just a self absorbed Movie producer who stole the names of European fairy tales and children's books and hogged his name on the posters of his toned down/American Broadway musicals.   Lewis Carroll, J. M. Barrie,  A. A. Milne, Rudyard Kipling, etc.

simonpark81 In reply to BorisFedorov [2014-05-30 17:11:41 +0000 UTC]

and the circle continues... people here on DA are drawing Simba and calling it something else....
or sonic.... or whatever else....
why cant these poor excuses just get inspired and draw something for once instead of tracing?
sigh.... walt Disney was no different... and that's the problem. he taught all the youngsters that lesson too, and now they are growing up and thinking that they can get through life by stealing and borrowing everything.

Yep, like America's White Elite made it's wealth by mostly theft at the expense of everyone else. Wall Street, Standard Oil, General Motors, General Electric, US Steel, William Randolph Hearst, NBC, CBS, Hollywood, etc. are all good examples if read the historical records
