Description I was always quite sure it was bound to happen. As I counted off my list in my head, I slowly started to count off the many small things that would happen daily, in which would never occur again. One by one, they trailed along, following her while she walked, whistling the same tune over and over again. I had watched her walk alongside me, running up with her small little feet. Time to time, I would glance back, and stare at the road we had paved. I allowed her to let go of my hand, and graze away the patted weeds. Sometimes she would run back, and tug on my knitted sweater's sleeve. Sometimes she would run even further, and occasionally off track, pointing out everything I had done to wrong her. But in the end, it was always the same road. I had never come to see the end of such a road, until she practically knelt down in front of me, her finger dipped in neverending green paint, the one color she adored, and dragged it across the floor, creating a line upon the gravel, dirt, and sand, puncturing her finger until the paint was red, yet she still smiled in pure glee as she raised her head, her shining eyes directed at me.
I glanced at the entrance, then back up at her. " You're all ready to go. "
She grinned, and looked up, full of enthusiasm and a reminisince.
She knew it was time, and approached the turn. She walked across the bridge, while I watched her, toes hardly passing the line she had created. If only she would turn around, and run back, so I could walk across with her, tightly gripping onto my hand.
No, that was not the case. She gently took my hand, and squeezed it, just like she had when she had seen the frightening monsters in that movie. I pet it, and slowly let go, linking our arms together instead. We walked in, the crowd suddenly facing us, eyes wide, some teary. As we approached the end of our journey, she slowly let go, and whispered in a benign voice, " Thank you for being there, daddy. "
Though she would not be able to hear me, I mouthed back, my face as calm as possible, almost a mask to hide my overflowing mind. " Thank you for being my little girl. "
