I have only just started messing around with the cowgirl type theme myself again quite recently as i could never get the horse to look realistic enough?

Yeah... Horse can be a problem to make look any way realistic. It tends to come out looking more like a Barbie Horse.
I spent a lot of time experimenting with differant texture settings esp. bump mapping.
But no matter what you do, the Mane is still a write-off. For that I had to use PSD layers from CWRW Elegant Equine. It's the only way to get any sort of realistic look.
