Description From the world of my Hunger Games next generation fanfic, "The Unity Race."

Just as the Nation of Panem rose out of the ashes of the former North America, the East Asian Sphere arose out of the various warring survivor states of what was once the eastern coastal regions of Asia.

The EAS began as the Japanese-Korean Alliance between the Japanese and South Korean remnant states, which decided out of pragmatism to ally with each other and put aside old animosities, in order to fend off the threat of the Kim Empire, which had formed in what was North Korea. The JKA was able to defeat the Kim with it's superior technology, as well as assistance from the Khanates, a collection of semi-nomadic tribes formed out of the remnants of the Russian and Chinese armies (among others), who had been fighting their own war against the Kim.

Soon, the ambitions of the Japanese and Koreans grew, bolstered by their defeat and annexation of the Kim Empire. Renaming their entity the East Asian Sphere, they decided to form a large, regional federation of the Asian survivor states, under the idea of prosperity, cooperation, security and development. Making several strides in food production, energy, and cybernetic technology, the EAS attracted a number of coastal Chinese cities to its banner, including Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, and Qingdao among others, which had been left leaderless following the Apocalypse and the elimination of the central Chinese government. The only area that actively resisted the peaceful annexation was Fuzhou in the south, where the remnant Communist government was based. When the Fuzhou government mustered an army and fleet to take back what it viewed as its rightful territory, the EAS fought back, deploying vast numbers of cybernetically enhanced infantry, resulting in another victory for the EAS. The fall of Fuzhou proved to be the event that catalyzed the EAS as a dominant power in the region.

Following the Fuzhou Conflict, most of the remaining nations in South-East Asia, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore also joined with the EAS. However it was around this time that a militant movement, the so-called Children of Yamato, begain to take power. They were governed by a racist ideology which layed the blame for all the world's problems and the Apocalypse on the Caucasian races, and their imperialism. The Children of Yamato, once in power, began programs that sought to cleanse the EAS of what they saw as white influence. This meant the banning of western modes of dress, the Abrahamic religions, as well as concepts such as democracy and freedom of speech, something that was seen as a western imperialist invention contrary to East Asian values. (The only white people exempt from these racist policies were the Russians from the Khanates, which had remained friendly with the EAS following the Kim War.) This led to ruthless suppression of Christians and Muslims in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Soon, this racism turned outward, toward nations such as Pacifica (the successor state to Australia and New Zealand), democratic nations that had grown out of old European colonies. The EAS saw them as simply a ghost of British imperialism which needed to be destroyed. In their long costly war against Pacifica, the EAS needed resources, so they hypocritically began to look to develop their own colonies to gather resources. They soon got the help of the Khanates to invade and divide up most of Alaska, driving the Free Alaskan Republic to a small area of land around Juneau.

The ultimate goal of the EAS is to create a world free of white people and white imperialist ideas. In their minds, this will make the world a safer place where another apocalypse can be averted. As the most technologically advanced nation in the world... they are well on their way to doing just that.

They aren't counting on Panem though...
