This pokes a bit of of fun at the thought experiment commonly known as "Schrodinger's Cat". Essentially, per quantum mechanics, certain particles (most notably electrons and radiation particles) cannot be predicted exactly without direct observation. The particles exist in all possible states until they are observed, which causes the collapse of their "wavefunction."
Schrodinger postulated that if this is true, one could place a cat in a completely sealed box that contained a mildly radioactive substance and a geiger counter connected to a toxic agent. If radiation is detected, the agent is released and the cat is killed. According to the theory, while the box is sealed, the wavefunctions will not collapse and the cat will be simultaneously alive and dead until the box is opened and the wave functions collapse.
Just another reason why I don't trust quantum mechanics.

ah ha! darkwalnut had a post that loosely dealt with this [link] super awesome article.
i have to believe this shit is real. well, i'm ok without the radioactivity and all. but shit happening on a quantum level, i don't know much about it but i have to buy into it.
