The sky was deceptively blue that morning, it filled our spirits with optimism, and as the thunder of the Ion Cannon heralded the escape of Quantum Storm, the first transport, we let out a rapturous cheer, we were confident, high off the elation this minor victory instilled in us, we 'thought' we were ready to hold the Empire at bay, but that jubilation would not last... By the end of that day our forces were in ruins, out of the thirty-something transports to run the gauntlet past Death Squadron over half were destroyed, innumerable valiant Alliance lives were cut short, and our home, Echo Base, was destroyed, little more than hot ashes on the cold snow, we were devastated... ~Quinn Shara's memoirs, Rebel Alliance years, recalling the disastrous defeat at Hoth.

More Star Wars OC AU stuff!! Can YOU guess which Star Wars film I've been obsessing over (again) lately...?

This piece is set during the Battle of Hoth, initially I had planned that Quinn is simply an escort fighter for the fleeing transports, and she still fulfills that role, but I decided that she'd also participate in the ground battle itself, her fledgling squadron providing logistical support for Alliance frontline forces, helping coordinate a fighting retreat, and as the generator powering the planetary shield is destroyed she issues a full retreat back to the remaining transports, delaying the Imperial advance as much as possible.

It's funny cuz' to me the way this turned out, it looks like a Rebel propaganda poster, something the Alliance might post on the holonet after Hoth, a defiant statement that says, despite the losses, despite the overwhelming odds, the Alliance will fight on! Quinns looking like a proper knight, steed (in the form of a Tauntaun) and all! XD She's got a slight wound from a very close laser blast, just glancing her cheek, I think I might actually keep that scar post-Hoth, don't know, let me know what you think.

Over all I wanted to capture the ferocity of the battle, the overwhelming might of the Imperial advance, and the bravery of the Rebellion soldiers in the trenches, enduring a battle they had no hope of winning. I took some creative liberties here and there, and drew plenty of explosions, cuz' they're always fun! I also wanted to include the Executor bombarding the battlefield, it's one of my favourite ships ever, the only Star Wars ships I like more are the humble X-Wing fighters.

Agh, I just love Quinn though, she's my baby, but she's all grow up and responsible, I'm... Weirdly proud of her...
