Description
Though Niiru Shioi (塩井 丹以瑠) was not a Gate, she nevertheless became fascinated by the world of magic and the Phantoms, and dedicated herself to understanding and recreating the ringed mages' abilities. Through study and experimentation, she was able to create the artificial Homonculus Phantom; chanelling its power through the Alchemy Driver and armed with the Crucible Magnum, she was able to become Alchemist, the "false magician".While Alchemist fights the Phantoms alongside Wizard, Beast and the Mages, she is more interested in expanding her own knowledge than actively helping others, and tends to be dismissive of the consequences of her own actions.
Alchemist's forms are:
- Lead Opus: Alchemist's base form, which she must transform into before accessing any of her main forms. While Lead Opus is highly resilient, it has no combat capabilities and cannot use spellcasting rings.
Lead, Change! - Sulphur Opus: A magically-adept form focused on long-range combat. In this form, she primarily uses her Crucible Magnum in its Precision State, turning it into a sniper weapon.
Sulphur, Change! Ki, ki, kihatsu! - Mercury Opus: A fast and maneuverable form used for stealth and evasion. This form is associated with the Crucible Magnum's Rapid State, an automatic rapid-fire weapon.
Mercury, Change! Ka, ka, kahen! - Salt Opus: A short-ranged but physically powerful form used for close-up combat. This form mainly uses the Crucible Magnum's Scatter State, which fires wide blasts like a shotgun.
Salt, Change! Ko, ko, kotai!
Alchemist is designed as something of an inversion of the other Wizard riders, with an "apron" in the front rather than a long "coat". Her helmet and rings are designed to look like potion bottles, and her spell rings are intended to evoke warning signs like you'd get on bottles of chemicals - something that's fairly ironic for Niiru, who likes to think of consequences as being for other people!
Her main forms are based on the three alchemical principles, and her design uses the four main colours associated with alchemy - black, white, red, and yellow. "Kihatsu", "kahen" and "kotai" are scientific terms meaning "volatile", "variable" and "solid", respectively, reflecting what the principles represent in classical European alchemy.
