Description

Formerly an up-and-coming scientist working for a large technology company, Sakura Uchinoura believed one of her breakthroughs would lead her to great success — but her supervisor had other plans, firing her and taking credit for her research. Financially and reputationally ruined, Uchinoura's feelings of anger and betrayal led Shiro Kanzaki to seek her out and offer her an Advent Deck. Making a contract with the monster Deepkraken, Uchinoura became Kamen Rider Eights; she intends to win the Rider War and use her wish to take revenge, and she will not let anybody else get in her way.

In battle, Eights is a heavyweight fighter, using her axe-shaped Deepvisor and the Crushbeak gauntlet summoned by her Strike Vent card to deal punishing blows. While faster opponents can easily outmaneuver her, she counters this using her Hold Vent card to ensnare them in Deepkraken's tentacles; she can also parlay this into her Final Vent attack, Drowning Break, which sees her slam her axe overhead onto the trapped opponent as Deepkraken drags them down, burying them alive.

Eights started from the position of a kraken-based Rider; as such, Deepkraken would be a repaint of the canonical Ryuki monsters Bakraken and Wiskraken. Since most Ryuki Riders are styled after historical soldiers, she's modelled on a viking (since krakens are Norwegian in origin) — the monster motif came in useful here, as I could have the tentacles curl around the eyes to form those distinctive "eye-guards" and up to form (admittedly ahistorical) horns. Her Visor is inspired by Tiger's, much as Femme's is fundamentally very similar to Knight's. Personality-wise, I wanted to a character whose motivation was understandable (a surprising number of Ryuki riders are just "I want to kill and hurt people"), but not overtly heroic either.

(Oh, and her Dragon Knight counterpart would be "Kamen Rider Kraken".)
