Description One of my favourite actors, and he played these "bad ass" roles so well.....anyways, drawn with ballpoint pen. Critiques and comments are welcome.
Thanks for looking,

what amazes me is that you do all this work with ballpoint pens. If I don't have that eraser, I tend to get nervous.

Skoane In reply to quebishop [2007-04-21 00:41:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment....actually, not having an option to erase or correct mistakes kindo of makes me focus on drawing more, and I tend to have a better control over my strokes

This is absolutely amazing, as is your entire gallery, I'm always in total awe of true artists like yourself. I just have a few questions eating away at the back of my head, I hope you don't mind if I ask. About how long do you think this took you to draw, did you use any pencil guidelines that you erased later (If not you can't be human) and also how large is the paper you used for this? Your work is just mind blowing, I can't imagine ever becoming as talented and gifted as you even in my wildest of dreams. Thank you so much.

Skoane In reply to delusionalhero [2007-04-16 19:31:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, first of all THANK you very much for your kind words, it means a lot to me. To answer your questions, yes I do use pencil to do an initial outline; however, I do not use it to do any shading, all that is done with pen. I do not erase my outline either, I just draw over it. Also, as I draw along, I usually change and adjust the outline to my convenience, which is done also with pen. This particular drawing was quite quick for my standards, I would guess about 10 hrs. I used regular 11 x 14 inches bristol smooth 400 series, the drawing itself is about 9 by 12. I believe that with little practice you will not only become as good as I am, but much better. Trust me, I just started to draw about 2 years ago with no previous experience!! Thank you again for your words!!!

No problem! I love looking through your gallery, and you say you've only been drawing 2 years, Astonishing! You must have an extremely refined eye to be able to pick out details like that and transfer it to paper so well. I suppose I'm lucky that I'm young, so I still have plenty of time to learn. Thanks again for answering my questions and I hope all goes well for you!

Hm, well done. IΒ΄m always in awe of what can be made with the use of a simple ballpoint pen, because thatΒ΄s one of the very few things I absolutely hate to work with... just not my type of material

But you did a good job on the faceΒ΄s expression and detail, even though I have to say (like killadore) that the left side is a bit askew... and what I miss also is a simple line or a bit of shadow on nether left side of his collar to the supposed shoulder, to make the whole thing more balanced. And you should be very careful about how much detail you add when drawing teeth - for me itΒ΄s almost too much in this painting, try to keep the lines thinner and the shadowing lighter, because otherwise it happens very fast that they may look like the teeth of a mule (sorry to be so frank, I hope you understand what I`m trying to say ) But thatΒ΄s my personal nitpicking...

By the way, IΒ΄m very glad that you didnΒ΄t try to highlight some details with white, it looks like a elaborate warrant of apprehension like this, just that the "Per un pugno di dollari" is missing... *hehe*

Hey, thank you very much for the critique..that is actually what I wish everyone would do...that is how we learn from each other. As I told killadore, I tried to stick with the reference without getting too creative, but maybe I should have ..When it comes to teeth, you are absolutely right, that is actually one part of human body that I truly do not like to draw, and it is especially difficult with ballpoint. It is funny that you have mentioned white highlights..at the beginning I tried to do it, but it just did not fit the mood I tried to portray.
Well, Thank you very much for your comment and critique, I truly appreciate it!!!

Hey, you're really creative That effect on the paper makes the drawing looks so old, it's really nice Awesome details on his face, from his wrinkles to his beard to his hair
