WHAT'S WRONG WITH ASH?!?!?!?!?! This has been bothering me ever since Ash first lost to Paul. It's almost like Ash forgot everything he's ever learned and became a dumb newbie trainer. D:<Ash just needs to call up Charizard and get it to BBQ Paul's arse! D:<<<<<

Actually if the anime is correct, Paul also traveled through Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn before entering the Sinnoh League. Which makes Ash losing to Paul much more plausible not less pathetic considering Ash's training policies.

It's the new season curse. By the end of each season, Ash appears to be a competent trainer. Then he goes to a new region, ditches his old pokemon sans pikachu, and he forgets everything .

But this is really different story in the end Diamond/Pearl season, where Ash disqualified from Pokemon league instead winning it as he did in the previous seasons.

He is denied the character development, which Red received in the Pokemon Special Manga. Ash's fate is sealed to stay dumb as a 10 year old child. He is the Ralf Wiggum of Pokemon.

According to Serebii.net Paul has participated in the Johto and Hoenn leagues or something...I'd like to think he wasn't a complete derp. I agree whole heartedly with this though. If Ash kept some of his original pokemon, he'd be wiping the floor with everyone.

4Cash has pretty much never made anything make sense in the series, a trainer trying to finish off a pokemon with false swipe, pikachu hitting a thunderbolt on a ground pokemon and killing it..yeah, it's not Ash's fault, it's the writers.
Granted, Ash has ALWAYS been dumb. Come to think of it the only reason he wins any major battles is charizard. Wanna bet he'll call Charizard to PWN Paul?

Well, Paul DOES use weak pokemon against Ash, yet he somehow wins, but Paul has been in all the original leagues and such. It was revealed in a recent episode.
Plus, he has a Torterra that knows Frenzy Plant. Not that there's anything wrong with Ash's rant of course...

Well, in one of the latest episodes in Japan actually showed that Paul has, in fact, travelled through Hoenn, Johto and Kanto and competed in their respective tournaments - Without winning, though.
With that in mind, I think it's nice goin' of Ash to use relatively new PokΓ©mon on Paul's god-knows-how-long-he's-had-them PokΓ©mon.
