Obviously I'm not a professional journalist and have no idea what I am typing most of the time, but I think it's good to toss random thoughts out there in the open just to get used to it. I actually would like to write a book someday. I had so many ideas that I started but could never really finish. Sometimes that applies to drawings and projects too but when it comes to productivity I don't always have a choice. So turning to doodles or free writing is a refreshing breather. It can help get rid of writers' block, inspire ideas, and/or give me just the right amount of motivation to finish. You don't even have to think about what to write or draw. Just scribble and type until you can't anymore. The biggest thing about free writing is not to force it. If you think too hard about it, congrats, now you're in a writer's block while trying to get out of a writer's block. Journaling can be a bit more thoughtful. I have one at home to write in. I personally feel free writing is better done on a computer so you can just keep going where as writing out a journal is more helpful since the goal involves more coherent thoughts. Journals also aren't supposed to be diaries. They will most likely contain personal information of course, but the whole point isn't to write down your deepest darkest secrets and leave them in a book for someone to find. Unless you're a cliche super villain. Then I'm sorry, but I can't help you. Well now I'm running out of things to say and this is a free write (not just about free writing, psych) so I'm just going to close here.
