RIP *05.05.1921 † 13.07.2005I have taken this photo in a daycare for older people. I'm doing there one year of volunteer work for a small salary. But i think it is great because you can learn there much about life. And also there are so many different people... It is an exciting job, even if it is sometimes really hard. The insights there are priceless...
Anyway, this man is trying to peel a kohlrabi for lunch
Old but still active and concentrated, that is very good... not everyone there could do this anymore. Please give it an Full View, there are many details.

I guess I just generally love this kind of picture where the subject either doesn't know you're taking a picture, or totally isn't effected by it, and you are capturing something uncontrived and authentic. This picture is blatantly genuine and you can see how this man is completely at ease with you and your camera in his face.. I see that and like it. He has a great expression and though I like how you've trimmed down the frame to his face concentrating and what he's concentrating on, I still feel like you're trying to convey a lot more than this picture shows. If you could've included another element.. the background is just as important as the foreground in pictures like this that depict people and try to interest you in their lives/stories, I think if you could've included anything like a less active elderly person behind him, or even just a wheelchair, a relevant sign on the wall, even a clock would've been better! I can't really invent examples in my imagination, but I think you had the potential to take this already great picture a little further and give it a little deeper meaning.. I'd love to see you consider how capturing more elements in your image can take a story/meaning further and capture it - I certainly haven't pulled this off yet, but I'm defiantely trying to get there!

He, thanks for this great comment. Well, i know what you mean but this just wasn't possible. It was such a spontaneous picture and i couldn't set anything in the environment. But thanks for this inspiration. My time there is over since a while and the man is dead as you sure have noticed

Greatly exposed photograph. The lighting captures and enhances his life lines, really helping to emphasise the point of this image. The only suggestion I have is perhaps trying a greater depth of field. As you say a few of the people cannot do what he is doing, it would be good for equal emphasis to placed on his hands

I just want to let you know that I think this picture is so simple...yet SO beautiful. It made me cry. I dont really know why it made me cry, but it just made me realize how beautiful life is and I LOVE this picture for that reason. Thankyou for taking such an inspiring piece of artwork!

Leider ist dort nicht jeder so fotogen und auch ist es mir nicht immer möglich dort zu fotografieren. Ich versuche aber noch andere Bilder zu machen wenn es sich ergibt. Einen passenden moment zu finden ist auch nicht immer einfach und vor allem kann ich dort nicht andauernd mit der Kamera rumlaufen bzw. diese zur Hand haben

Weisst du, ich habe über Photographie nachgedacht seit dem
Moment wo es mich erwischt hat. Ich hatte immer die Idee, aber
nie die Gelegenheit (ok bis jetzt habe ich auch nie wirklich danach
gesucht!) dass Photographie auch verbuinden werden sollte mit
einer gewissen sozialen Realität.
In dieses Konzept passen die drei Photos in deiner Gallery ausnahmslos
gut und ich wünschte einerseit es würden sich derartige Gelegenheiten
auch für mich ergeben bzw. ich hätte den Mut derartige Situationen zu
suchen!

Hm... ich weiss was du meinst, aber ob man derartige Situationen suchen kann? Ich denke sowas ergibt sich einfach. Bei diesem Bild habe ich mich einfach mit an den Tisch gesetzt mit der Kamera in der Hand. Erstmal gab es da auch skeptische Blicke, ich habe dann einfach mal ein paar Bilder gemacht und dazu gemeint, dass sie sich davon nicht stören lassen sollen und dass ich mir gern ein paar Erinnerungsfotos machen möchte. Nachdem ich dann ne Weile dort saß und die Leute sich wieder mehr auf die Arbeit konzentriert haben, konnte ich dann dieses Bild machen.
Ähnlich war es auch bei den anderen Bildern.
Die Bilder repräsentieren ja auch irgendwie einen Teil meiner Arbeit dort, sie zeigen wie ich diese Leute dort sehe.
Ich würde mal sagen solch eine Gelegenheit ergibt sich wenn man irgendwo mit eingebunden ist, wenn du weisst was ich meine... Da ich ja mit den Leuten arbeite und diese auch schon kenne ist sowas sicher leichter zu realisieren als bei Fremden.

Ich weiss was du meinst, es ist sicher von Vorteil eingebunden zu sein in
eine Umgebung, den Kontakt und die Vertrautheit mit Menschen zu haben,
so das schlussendlich solche Aufnahmen leichter fallen weil man einfach
dazu gehört. Aber ich denke man kann solche Situationen sehr wohl suchen
und auch finden sofern man den Mut hat sich solchen Situationen zu stellen.
Die Frage ist wie natürlich dann Menschen reagieren. Ich finde diese drei
Aufnahmen wirklich toll, weil sie einfach aus dem Leben schöpfen und jenseits
einer stereotypen Vorstellung von 'Leben' Einblicke geben in einen Mikrokosmos
der sonst verwehrt bleibt und im Kontext deiner Beschreibung was Sinntiefe des
Photos angehen eher die Ausnahme ( ja auch bei mir) darstellen!
Ich wünschte ich hätte Gelgenheit dergleichen zu probieren bzw. den Mut dies zu
suchen!

Mir gefällt, das eigentlich nur das Gesicht und der obere Teil scharf sind und der Rest so langsam unscharf wird.
