The elevator doors chimed with insufferable cheeriness as Brooke sighed and waited for the usual office crowd to filter out of it before stepping into the elevator herself. She turned, pressing the button for the top floor of the office and where she was expected in a few minutes for another board meeting. Or rather, the papers in the manila envelope she was carrying were expected. If anyone on the board had the slightest idea who she was she'd be quite surprised.
The atrocious music that tinkled overhead as the doors closed was simply another aspect of the endless daily grind as she stood there in polite composure while the elevator began its ascent. The young brunette watched as the numbers ticked by, wondering if this would be a quick trip or if it would cut into her lunch break. She hoped it wouldn't. The last thing she wanted was to spend any more time in this drab building than necessary.
There was a sudden lurching then as the elevator lights flickered, jarring Brooke out of her idleness for a moment as she reached a hand out to steady herself against the wall. Then the elevator jerked violently and came to a stop as the lights went out entirely, plunging Brooke into total darkness.
“Oh no.” she muttered to herself as she felt along the wall of the elevator blindly. “What now?”
Trying to keep her calm as she groped for the elevator's control panel she cursed herself for leaving her phone at her desk. You weren't allowed to bring personal electronics up to the boardroom or anywhere on the upper floors for that matter but Brooke wished that she'd ignored that rule this one time. Then she could call for help without groping for the call button on the elevator or at the very least light up said button so she could contact the building management. With an electronic hum and click, the lights came back on just as suddenly as they'd gone out though the elevator didn't renew its ascent.
It was with some embarrassment that Brooke realized that she'd been nowhere near the elevator panel. Sighing in exasperation she turned to try the buttons only to gasp and jump back as she dropped the manila envelope to the floor. Standing besides the elevator panel was a tall slender...thing encased in what looked like shining silver armor. Brooke's frightened gaze traveled up the length of its vaguely humanoid body to find herself gazing at a flattened face covered in smooth pale blue skin with an almost non-existent nose and large blue eyes that gazed at her unblinkingly.
Terrified beyond belief, Brooke simply stood there with her eyes wide and her mouth agape. This had to be some sort of office prank. It just had to be. There was a camera somewhere here hidden away in the elevator that was recording all this. Then the, thing, moved towards her and Brooke froze as it approached her. As it moved to her side Brooke took an involuntary step away from it but one of its long fingered hands looped gently around her waist where it held her firmly.
Her heart galloping in her chest, threatening to shatter her ribcage, Brooke turned away from the creature only to have its other hand caress her cheek gently as it turned her face back to it. She found herself staring wide-eyed into its gaze as its cerulean eyes fixated upon her own frightened brown eyes as they darted furtively across the alien features now considering her. Those same eyes began to glow and shimmer hauntingly and Brooke found herself drawn into them as her body seemed to relax. Her eyes widened as they were drawn into the haunting gaze of her strange companion as it switched its hold on her, placing its other arm around her waist as it brushed her long brown hair away from her face.
Its touch was frigid, but Brooke barely noticed nor flinched as the intensity of the glow in its eyes grew and she found her mind beginning to fog. It became increasingly hard to form conscious thought, something she was only vaguely aware of as her features slackened and she was drawn closer by the hand now holding her waist. Pressed firmly up against the being's silvery armor, her eyes began to droop as her arms hung limply at her sides. The thing turned its hand around, placing it against the side of the young brunette's head as it cradled her almost gently.
Then Brooke's mind was subsumed, diving down into a blissful fog as all conscious thought fled from her and her body slumped in the arms of the visitor. It held her like that for a moment, considering the dark-haired office worker for a moment as she breathed easily, seemingly asleep in its arms, before its eyes ceased glowing and it pulled Brooke's unconscious form against its silvered armor. There was a pause, then the elevator lights flickered and in one moment of shadow both Brooke and her assailant vanished without a trace as the lights solidified and the elevator resumed its upwards course. When the doors chimed pleasantly at the boardroom floor, the only sign that Brooke had ever been in the elevator at all was the manila folder lying on the floor. There was no trace of the young woman who had carried it or the thing that had taken her.
