Hi Mel! Thanks so much for making a tutorial I love these and have been playing with resin a lot lately since I cast my own dolls eyes and misc stuff, I was wondering about using a polymer clay that needs painting like super sculpey though, does resin dissolve the paint job is submersed? I ask because i tried to make a pendant with little purple salvia flowers and they turned clear while it dried, all the color just sucked right out! If you don't know that's fine, i just thought you might!

Hmm I have used acrylic before in my pieces and then submerged it in resin. So far the acrylic is still on my resin. I'm not sure if the type of resin would have a play in it. I believe the type of resin I use is epoxy resin. It doesn't give off heat when curing, there's no odor either. Hope that helps you! Good luck! =]

Oh this stuff is quite caustic and stinks to high heaven, I'll give it a test run and then maybe try a different brand if I need to, thanks so much!

This is absolutely brilliant. Like ridiculously so. I love it

But uh two questions...How does the koi look like it has scales? Coincidence or something you didn't cover in your tutorial?... And what kind of resin did you use? I've heard of this clear resin before used for fake water like this, but what is it called and where can you buy it?

I'm excited to try this someday, if not a koi pond something to do with water~

SmallCreationsByMel In reply to D00M99 [2012-09-12 00:00:45 +0000 UTC]

the scales look like scales cause the clay I used is pearly white. It has small flecks of sparkles in it. The resin is just called resin XD. Try epoxy resin. That kind doesn't heat up or turn yellow I think. I bought mine in Hong Kong, so everything was in Chinese, but I've seen resin in craft stores. =]

SmallCreationsByMel In reply to almybunny [2012-08-07 03:14:18 +0000 UTC]

for the koi pond itself, it takes me from 1-2 hours, making the video...that's another story haha it takes like 3-4 days for me to make one X_X (especially this one since I had to let it dry over night etc) =]. Glad you like it!

True. The other problem is that I don't have a workspace for it. Maybe in two years when I move out.

I've wanted to for awhile now, and knitting is a lot like sculpting, but with yarn. And takes longer.

SmallCreationsByMel In reply to Aelorn [2012-07-27 22:39:52 +0000 UTC]

I don't know how to knit, but some of the things people come up with is amazing!! It definitely looks time consuming! You must have tons of patience =]

If you wanna learn, start with simple scarves and stuff. Once you have the pattern memorized, put on a show you've seen ten million times. Made a five foot scarf in five days last summer when I re-taught myself.

You are so very talented! Thank you for making this video.
I have a really off topic question though...
how do you position your camera when you make the videos? Is it in front of you on a stand? I love how your camera doesn't move a lot in your tutorials. In a lot of crafting tutorials I try watching on Youtube, the people bump the camera or keep having to change the angle of the camera. I get kinda dizzy watching them sometimes. haha. You keep it so still and perfect!

SmallCreationsByMel In reply to PeachMelody [2012-07-25 23:14:46 +0000 UTC]

I actually have the camera on a mini tri-pod thing and it is looking down right over where I work, so it is actually a bird's eye view. I might do a FTF on that! hehe

I just uploaded some deco-ish boxes I just made! I am working on charms though. Unfortunately the glaze I keep using cracks the paint and flakes off. A lot of customs I just finished got ruined. :<
