well that's just it. if you know why you like it then it's probably because it fits one of the photography basics. i guess it's just learning what the name for it is

you have great shots but this one like a lot of mine have a slopping horizon which takes a little away from the shot other than that its a awesome shot

Thanks so much for the critique - yes I agree: it does take something away from the shot. The problem I think is caused by the hand dropping slightly as I depress the shutter release button and it's only on getting home and downloading that I realise I've messed it up - again!! I really must make a super human effort to keep the hand rock solid!

90% of my shots have to be straightened and Im not sure what Im doing wrong, you might be correct on how it happens and it just might be my problem too. Or Im holding my head crooked.

Oh dear - not even thought about holding the head crooked, just another aspect to think about!! I try to straighten using Picasa (because it's idiot Proof) but find the clarity then disappears. Have just been a point and shoot photographer for years but having recently joined DA am encouraged to actually think more about what's going wrong -thanks to people like yourself who take the time to give constructive critique. Many thanks!

I always forget something that Im not doing. I really should make a check list but by the time it takes me to read the list the shot is gone.....

Believe me I know the feeling but, as you say, sometimes the opportunity for the shot is so brief that there's no time for check lists. I guess it all comes with experience and familiarity like playing an instrument. As for yelling and screaming- what's the point? If the criticism is valid we should accept it gracefully and gratefully and use it to learn. Surely that's the whole point of DA: to learn, it shouldn't be for self gratification.
