Great eye indeed !
Another way: the mountain was fashioned on the roof, above

The huge, rocky mountain makes this establishment look so small.
Great shot!

I thought at first that the building spoiled the photo and was going to see if I could crop it out but then realised that perhaps the building added interest!! Thank you for your comment.

Embarrassingly I didn't notice the roof at the time. It was only after downloading the photo and having a closer look!! Thank you for commenting and faving.

Hello , it is "le Mont Aiguille" in the Vercors , I have another view of this mountain ([link] )

Thanks for the link, nicely captured - rather more interesting sky/lighting than mine too! Can you remember the name of the nearest town? I know Grenoble was just a few kilometres north but presumably this is associated with a smaller nearby town.

Les villages autour sont : Chichilianne , Clelles et Mens , do you know ?

smallsofthamish In reply to J222R [2013-04-01 11:57:32 +0000 UTC]

Not really - we were close to Clelles: I remember seeing signs for it and we must have driven right by Chichilianne because we travelled through the Col du Fau and Col de Menee en route to Chatillon-en-Diois. We will be in the same area later this year - I will look for them!

Am thinking it's the only possible conclusion. Can't see how I missed it when I actually took the photo

Spectacular scenery and you chose the perfect angle for the capture to really wonder if it was the architect's vision or a coincidence....nice work!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

smallsofthamish In reply to lil-Mickey [2013-03-22 18:18:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh, if only!! The truth is rather more mundane: I think we'd stopped at that spot to consult the map, thinking we had missed the turn! Choice of angle didn't really enter into it (what an admission) and as I mentioned in a previous comment, I hadn't really paid much attention to the building, or the roof, until I uploaded the photo onto DA! Call it fate.

It is a bit odd! Strangely the photo has been in my files for 2 years but I had never noticed that roof. It was only as I was uploading to DA and trying to think of a title that suddenly the roof stood out as being the same shape as the mountain!!

I think the roof was definitely fashioned on the mountain, or the builders were staring at the mountain while they worked

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

smallsofthamish In reply to fearless-frog [2013-03-20 15:13:09 +0000 UTC]

Think you're probably right. I know a lot of these snowy places have sloping roofs to discourage snow from lying too heavily on them but I thought they tended to be steeper.

fearless-frog In reply to smallsofthamish [2013-03-20 15:47:00 +0000 UTC]

You shouldn't listen to me, I've no idea really, lol. But that roof and that mountain can't be a coincidence...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

smallsofthamish In reply to fearless-frog [2013-03-20 16:07:16 +0000 UTC]

It's more satisfying to think that it was intentional. Viewed from a different angle it's probably nothing like!!

Wish I could remember! Closest I can say is Rhone Alpes just south of Grenoble. It was just before turning off the main road, to go through either the Col du Fau or the Col de Menee. Pleased you like it - it's quite a distinctive mountain. We seemed to be following it around for hours: whichever way we turned - there it was!! Thanks also for faving.
