Description
I have been meaning to create this map for a fair while now. Unfortunately, I was unable to fit everything on, so I took the best ones, which I believe are some of the greater inspirations to me – both on dA and for real life situations. As it says on the bottom of the deviation, the bigger a square is, the bigger the influence. This is how I’ll explain it to you. Please note that almost all of these images were taken from my Pinterest boards, which were pinned from others. The original blank meme can be found here: [link][3x3] Ocean and Nature:
- I've grown up with nature and the ocean around me. New Zealand is a small country, and the city I live in is the largest with a population of only 1.3mil. You're never far from the water and where I currently live, there are horse paddocks just across the street. I live in the "suburbs" and all I need to do is travel 10 minutes and I will have hit the countryside. Where ever I have turned to, there is a beach not far, or long stretch of road not far. Also, for 19 years of my life, I travelled to my Aunt and Uncle's farm at least once a year in Central Hawkes Bay. The crisp air, noisy animals [link] and every spring we'd be out shearing the sheep. It's hard to imagine being stuck in the middle of nowhere with none of this. A huge influenece on my life, and although I grew up in the city, I see myself as a 'country-girl' at the heart. Another note of nature, I had the lucky opportunity to swim and sleep, explore the Amazon Rainforest on a school trip. I had just turned 18. Not many people are able to say they've been there. If I could go back tomorrow, I wouldn't waste a moment.
[2x2] The Script:
- These three boys are my all time favourite band and have been now for about three years. I listen to their music and read the lyrics everyday,. Although I don't sing around people, nor do I speak music, I still get inspired by the music they speak. In my head, as I listen to music, I make up stories and it changes how I think of things. For what I do, all I can do is listen and wish. That inspires me enough! I hope that in the near future, I get the chance to see them life. It would be a dream come true for me, to be able to listen in person. If you're a fan of the Script as much as I am, please check out this blog, and just listen to the music. [link]
[2x2] Lady Antebellum:
- Thanks to ~ZL9685 when I was still friends with her, she showed me the music of Christian Kane. At first, I never thought much of country music and barely listen to it. After ZL and I stopped being friends, I listened to Christian Kane more. Then I discovered more country music, thanks to watching a tad too much television. Over the last few months, it has taken me from not liking this music to loving it. It's very peaceful and it calms me down, yet it also makes me dream what I never thought I could dream. Lady Antebellum is only a snippet of what I now listen to. Music likes this actually makes me smile. Other notable music is Suglarland, The Civil Wars, Taylor Swift, Christian Kane. This is another great song that is slow and wondeful, featuring Sugarland: [link]
[2x1] Antarctica:
- I've always been fond of the ice, snow and the animals that live in these places. I'm tall and thin. I've had 'severe' hypothermia once, and twice on minor occasions. When people look at me, they think I instantly love the beach. As above, I said I love the ocean. I love the ocean, but not the beach. If I had the opportunity to live in winter and spring 24/7, I would. My favourite animal is a worldwide being, and to be able to see them in these waters would be pure imagination. Countless times, I've done scribbles and sketches of Antarctica and what it would be like, the animals, ice, crisp air, blue sky, winter! Everything is pure and untouched.. [link] If it's not Antarctica, it's Alaska and Canada. There is too much unseen land, that I wish to explore.
[2x1] Cavalry and War:
- I've never been a history buff. In 2011, I had the idea to develop a story based on a 13 year old boy, seeing the war through his eyes. This year, I watched War Horse and was completely inspired to change my story. Through what I've read, watched and bought from secondhand book stores, my story idea is always changing. I watched War Horse once again on my birthday of this year, and it has finally made me touch down on a base point for my story. War ripped through the world, and my Poppa was an ANZAC of the Korean War. I am writing this story for him and all the other soldiers whom survived or was killed. It may take me a few years to write, but it will be done.
[2x1] New Zealand Police:
- I made it through a year of university, pulling in the fields of Geography and Tourism. Halfway through midterm, I finally said to myself that I was going to be an Oceanographer - a dream career. By the end of the year, I was lost and confused. Beginning of 2012, I moved away and stopped on animal/canine studies. After getting unwell and moving back to NZ, I stopped to think about what I was doing. Oceanography is a hard field to get into, especially for someone like I. For a few months, I was stuck and never thought about work. Now, I'm looking at heading into Criminology and working for the police, hopefully one day I can work up towards detective work. Most of my family don't know that I wish to join the police. ~ZL9685 and I would do midnight drives on a Friday/Saturday night, every week. Because of this, I was always seeing the cop cars, police walking up and down the street. Arresting people and solving murders is something I can do, something I can see myself doing. Criminology is what I wish to study. As much as people hate the 'pigs', I wish to join them. After all this, I'll work my way up into Forensics when I get the idea of things. NZ Police is where I want to stand. On the frontline!
[1x1] Eva Ibbotson:
- My favourite author, and my love for reading. I read when I can (and with better health). Five of her stories are my favourite. The Secret Countess [featured], Magic Flutes, A Company of Swans, The Morning Gift, A Song for Summer [favourite]. My favourite book of all is in fact On Thin Ice [Jamie Bastedo] which looks at climate change, Inuit and the spiritual side of things. I don't know how I'm inspired by these books, but they are there and things I can read over and over without getting bored. Something that is very unusual to me.
[1x1] Robert Wyland:
- I first discovered his paintings while away on a cruise in 2007. Some of his paintings were to be auctioned off, and I was always looking at them, knowing that once day I could paint like that. An artist who draws from the sea, and paints to canvas, each piece of art different to the one before. The auctioneer, whom we became quite good friends with on board, had worked closely with Wyland, seen him paint in person, and I was told the stories. I was shown a clip of him painting that not many other peope have been able to see. Degas taught me the steps to becoming an artist. To this day I have it and I look back at it. Inspired everyday.
[1x1] Nautical:
- Dad was in the Navy for 21 years. I was in the Young Mariners and the Sea Cadets. I would go fishing every weekend and sailing in our yacht when the day was windy. I've grown up with it in my blood. If I stand on a boat, I'm whisked away to another world without even known I have. In the Cadet Forces, I'd go away on regatta's, do knot work, medical, rigging and derigging. It came naturally to me.
[1x1] Dream Home:
- When I'm upset and need to escape, I search Pinterest and TradeMe at homes and apartments and pull together what I would have for myself. Almost like I'm creating another place that I am able to escape to. The image used is a wooden/stone country home with two turrets, land and water nearby. At one point I wanted to do architecture/interior design. I still like the idea, but I'd do it for myself. I know what I want, and all these pictures make me want to create it for real one day.
[1x1] Supernatural:
- I was first introduced to the Supernatual franchise last year or the year before. On my side account, I created an online kennel/stable. When I first created it, the idea for the name came from a store I used to drive past to get to work and see family. Black Rock is the name and it wasn't until later that I realised that the name was also a reference to my favourite episode, Bad Day at Black Rock. Almost all my dogs and horses have been named after Supernatural episode titles and their call names being references to that episode. I watch too much TV, but thanks to TV, I'm doing more than I ever thought I would, I listen to more/new music and I read things I never would.
[1x1] Ireland:
- My top five destination to travel to, in order are: Antarctica, Alaska, Canada, Ireland and the Czech Republic. It's my idea of travel and tourism, and the landscape there is beautiful. The Irish accent is my favourite, I have the Script too. I'll travel there one day, have a guinness or two (even if it's gross) and sit in an Irish Bar.

Unfortunately, I won't be going to Ireland for a wee while yet. Still have university and money to save, hahah. It's definitely one of my top places to travel to though, so I'll be sure to get there one day. I'm fine with the rain. If it's anything like the weather here, then it'll be nothing new to me. I am actually seeing the Script live next year in my home city.
