Description
Imagination can be a bit too much sometimes. I'm trying to express a world inside one's head, taking over. That's why I wanted amateur spiders painted, because they're only in one's imagination. Not real. I don't feel so satisfied with this picture though, so feel free to comment and critique me.What does the expression look like to you?
Does the image describe what she is afraid of?

It kind of does but there is more in that expression. It's almost a face of anguish, fear and terror mixed with a hopelessness. If you look at the face long enough, it tells me, "It's over".

That's very observant of you, I feel that you're right. It would make sense for there to be all those emotions on her face, I think.

true imagination can be a bit much sometimes , even overwhelming.
arachnophobia is an awful thing to have speaking from my own personal
experiences with it. thankfully I've never hallucinated any spiders ( real or fake )
in a large mass running up my body. the thought of it however does make me shudder a bit
I like your concept of the image and the rather fetal pose she is in.
the fake spiders are ok , a little more realistic could have been a bit better but
the thought behind the image is there and definitely clear.
as for the models pose , ... the fetal position is excellent but I feel the hand over her mouth
kinda hides that terrified appeal , if her hand over her mouth were perhaps trying to brush them away
and seeing a screwed up face from fear it'd give the over all image that wee bit more oomph.
over all , I still really like this photo and the conception behind it. you pulled it off nicely and I hope
that my critique was fair in your opinion and possibly even constructive

Actually, I believe this is more of Maniaphobia, the fear of going insane. I know that might be hard to see from the picture, I aimed for Arachnophobia, but it's not a phobia of mine. Though I'm terrified of losing my mind. And the spiders symbolize it, it's something I've experienced, and seeing/feeling something that ain't there must be a sign of losing one's mind. Or well, that's what I thought back then.
Thank you so much for your critique! It's very reasonable, everything you say. Especially about the pose. Because I had a hard time to find the right one, and I think I didn't end up finding it after all. There were other expressions, some of them describing more fear, but then my attention wasn't directed on the spiders, and that's a fail. Perhaps it would've been enough to just remove that hand.
Once again, I really appreciate that you took yourself time to write. I think this will help me in the future.

not sure what sort of phobia that is then ,
but a phobia indeed ..
you're welcome , and thank you
sometimes poses can be very difficult to pull off
depending what you're after
you're welcome , it was no problem; glad to help you

Of course I know that this picture doesn't really show the fear of going insane, but more a fear of spiders. So I'm not really after that people would see my real phobia.
Oh yes, poses are... Well, let's just say I took hundreds of pictures this day, and didn't come out with a single one I was fully satisfied with. I think that the next time I arrange a picture I shall spend more time on the poses. And the light. And the background. And the... Oh well.

it's probably a good thing with your own phobia ,
only because I reckon it'd be hard to try and pull off
for ideas I have on it ..
poses can be difficult , LOL don't be so hard on yourself
you done well with this one , if it helps , the next time
you decide to do one along these lines , remember your
lighting situation , and your backdrops , because they looked
really good in my opinion , nothing wrong with them at all
your pose is good too , it's just for this one that hand over
mouth is a bit out of place other then that it's fine

grief is the look on your face rather than terror.
maybe only a few bigger spiders, as to begin with i thought they were jazzy socks (must've took ages to do them), or no spiders at all & just let your expression do all the talking.
not a critisism, just my own skewed view.

Yes, I guess so. Thanks, I'm grateful you shared your opinion, really. Because I'm having a hard time feedbacking myself on this shot for some reason. The spiders took ages, and I think the other picture [link] was better. Because they were easier to spot.

it's easier when you enlarge the pictures, but on normal size looks a tad like leopard print tights/socks.
...not that there's anything wrong with that...i've got a leopard print shirt! grrrrr baby!
probably having a hard job self-critiquing it as so emotionally involved. give it a few days then have another butchers at it & you should be able to see it a bit clearer in your mind. i find that works for me, particularly on my writing.

I've got a leopard top, and leopard sheets! [link]
Yeah, that usually works - to go back after a couple of days. I think looking at 150 pictures of the same session after each other, with slight changes in poses and such, makes one's head dizzier.

think i prefer the colour version over the b&w?...
i know what you mean by looking at lots of pix with slight diffs. i tend to take 2-3 shots of each pic & hope one turns out ok. the nightmare is if all 3 come out fine & having to choose the keeper. now THAT does my head in!

Really? I think the black and white version was easier to the eye. Not that much of a contrast between my top and the sheets, more like a camouflage.
True! It's not as bad if none of them turn out okay, it's much more difficult when they're all in the same league. I usually take more than 2-3 pictures, and I'm thankful that I do, because sometimes it can be 1 of 15 that's alright.
